Im considering either the R8 or the baby Aston as my next car but i know theres a difference in buying a car and 'owning' the car, i.e. running costs.

Ive tried searching but too no avail - unless im using the search system wrong i dont know...

Anyway, just wondering if any owners on here could give me a break down on associated true running costs.

Also, does anyone know if theres an R8 owners club website/forum as i cant seem to find one on google.

Thanks in advance

My profile is fairly up to date on running costs. Feel free to message me if you want more details.

There is no R8 owners club so most GB owners use a US based site called R8talk

r8 is preety cheap to run. major service is every 20,000 miles cost 695 from audi main dealer. tyres need changing every 10,000 miles depending how you drive the car, there abt 250 to 300 quid a tyre.hmmm the car drinks a hell alot of oil!! when i had mine i was topping up every couple of thousand miles. they are about 30 quid a bottle. thats it really. one thing i noticed when i had mine though is the car is prone to chip marks on the front bumper and bonnet. thats due to the car sitting so low am guessing. overall its preety much a cheap super car to run. after owning both i would buy it over the baby aston anyday.

Wondering something similar. Suspect Depreciation is going to be the huge factor in the running costs.

Looks like a well specced low milage 2007 car can be got for around 60K, is there any concensus on what that would have lost one year and 6000 miles later?

I would be tempted at less than 10K, but not If I'm going to drop 20K.... So am I too cheap to run an R8 :-)

How long is a piece of string. There has been no depreciation on them in the last 6 months, but in the prior 18 months they fell like a stone £25k-£30k on a new car.

Yep only had mine 2 weeks .................. what a car !!!! servicing costs are nothing like as much as other supercars. Did my homework on that one before I purchased, had a TVR T350 before which had to be serviced every 12 months whether you had done 1000 miles or 5000 miles.

Hi,

Thanks for all the comments back, been much helpful to me and others obviously smile

Wont be looking to buy until March time unfortunately, though ill still be asking questions and possibly pm'ing a few on here.

One more question is that are there many known common faults? Ive been tempted by the 996/997 Turbo but keep hearing/reading about them having engine issues.

Thanks again

No common faults as such. They like to drink oil in their early life so you do need to keep an eye on that but that's about it. My 10K miler needs a drop every couple of months so a used one is a peach smile I have mine as my only car - goes to the shops, take my dog for walks and goes mental when required. The only issue is that she does love to open her legs and run wink - so you have to give her the opportunity when you can!! I did 300 miles on my first day and when I got out it was like doing 30 - they are a seriously special car!

Just changed from a 996tt x50 then 997tt to R8 v10. You need to do a bit more research as the turbo engines are very reliable and very quick. R8 delivers performance in different ways but you need to drive them before choosing.

Had mine just over a week its a white R8 with all the toys except the camera which is usefull having driven my mates, I drive his like it was a friends but when you get your own the surprise in handling and manners are superb, I traded an 07 Rs 4 for mine which is white.

I have had a Porker and I must admit the R8 just seems to be such a special place to be, women seem to love it, which is not a bad thing, and its 10:00 at night and I am really trying to think of an excuse to go for a drive, initially I thought it was a 10/10 but now its 11/10 for me.

I paid top money from a dealer for my Jan 08 but it has 2,600 miles on the clock and was like new.

The brakes are superb for the road, the sound from the engine just makes you want to go everywhere with the windows open and its so contollable I have already learnt to squeal the tyres round corners which unlike the Porker does not suffer from that weight hanging over the back wheels.

As above superb affordable daily drive supercar.

I think we all know the price of road tax. The Q is insurance!
