In short:

Some owners have reported cracked frames above the front struts in early models, swearing blind they have done nothing to cause it
Audi reinforced the area on later cars (2010 onwards) and also made strengthening plates for earlier cars
However Audi have yet to admit there is an issue
Most/all issues appear to be US based (but could be wrong on that)
If you have a cracked frame the car is pretty much a right off
Audi specialists in the UK have seen the problem but only in cars involved in an accident

My opinion is that the issue is very, very rare - if you're buying don't let it put you off but get it checked as part of your PPI.

Thanks. It never affected my 2009, and the new one’s a 2013, so hopefully it’s nothing to worry about.
