Hi,
I'm looking to replace my V6 4mo for a Polo TDI 130. Bottom line is, my curent Golf is totally impractical for London and although it sounds great, I can no longer afford 20mpg...
Anyone have any experience of the Polo with the 130 lump? I see I can can get it superchipped (I did this to my last Golf TDI) for a bout £400..which will take up the power to 170...Is it likely to feel as fast as my current Golf V6?
I can probably afford a low mileage '04 model with the old shape, or 70-80k miles '06 model which has the new shape.
I'm not too bothered about the shape - does the newer model have a improved engine?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Great engine alround, same as the skoda fabia, and they can be tuned right up, but probably best to stick to a remap of some sort. Not a particluarly refined engine but generally reliable.
The car I would have though,. probably won't be as fast as the Golf, although a chipped one would give it a very hard time indeed and probably feel quicker.

Getting away especially in the wet can be interesting, my skoda superb, remapped used to bring the traction control light on in thrid when it was wet, but tip of the day, pull away in second as long as it isnt uphill and then see it go!!
Clutch can be a problem, but I ran 50k on mine remapped and never had an issue.

The earlier ones badged 'GT' look nicer, but are quite rare. Don't disregard the Fabia VRS and Ibiza FR either!
There are two slightly different PD 130 engines known by their codes of BLT and the later ASZ. The latter tends to be slightly more powerful as standard I think. Unfortunately I can't say when they changed over - sometime in/around 2005 I guess, but you can tell from the engine code.

Nice cars but the Polo GT with the TDI 130 engine is quite rare, so you will probably pay a hefty premium for one over a Sport TDI 100.
Have you looked at the last gen Ibiza Cupra? You used to be able to get those with 160bhp as standard from the 1.9 TDI. Same chassis as the Polo and Fabia.

Friend of mine has the previous model Ibiza (mk4?) with the 130 TDi engine. Feck me that thing is quick Have you looked at the last gen Ibiza Cupra? You used to be able to get those with 160bhp as standard from the 1.9 TDI. Same chassis as the Polo and Fabia.
It will wheelspin in 2nd and pulls like a train.
Apollogies for the slight derail, but what is the difference between the 100bhp and 130bhp TDI engines? Is it just the ECU/map or are there fundamental differences eg different camshafts/pistons/turbo etc? I've got a 56 plate 100bhp 1.9TDI Polo sport. Its a good car, but personally I hate the sports suspension. At times it feels like I'm driving a horse and cart, the suspension is so hard you feel every pot hole in the road and speed bumps are a nightmare. I use it for a 35 mile commute to work and average around 55mpg, give or take 5mpg depending on traffic etc.

Ditto in the GT, the handling does let it down. Think i'm gunna go for some KW springs and shocks to sort it out Toilet Duck said:

130bhp engine gets the variable-vane turbo for less lag. Chips nicely to about 160-170 without problems - mines in an Octavia Combi and is a proper wolf-in-sheeps-clothing. Hey bit late for the conversation lol, I have a 2005 polo gt 130 and am thinking of getting it remapped, most places say they can get it to 165bhp for roughly £200. Am looking to talk to someone who knows about it or have had it done to see if it is worth it or how the rest of the car takes it.
Thanks, dean
