Can anyone comment re what their light switch does? (per my post above with the big (sorry!) pic). Before I make a tt of myself at the dealer trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing... Thanks.

dipped beam symbol does not change to green when lights are on, either when selected dipped directly or when on Auto. the only way to tell is to look if center console is lit up as it comes on with lights or your sat nav will change to night colours if you have that set on.

Thanks. Hhhmmmpphhh, so it's normal that it doesn't light up frown . Seems strange that sidelights go green, but dipped doesn't.

But that will come on with sidelights or dipped won't it?

Sorry if a link is buried somewhere in the thread already, but does anyone have a link to a pdf version of the owners manual? (ideally 2010, but any would do). Thanks.

i would need to check but I don't think it comes on with DRLs if on AUTO. Light sensor decides when dipped beam is on and at that point center console will light up.

Our S5 when set to auto has the dipped beam green emblem light up on the switch when the headlights come on. The red bulb symbol on the switch is lit all the time - I think it's there so you can find the switch in the dark.

Seconded; before I bought mine, I had a very good look on the internet, never found a pdf manual. Anyone?

Going to replace the brake pads and discs next service and have had enough of the dust from the standard pads! Has anyone used EBC Redstuff, I remember years ago they had a bad reputation but there isn't a lot of choice for our cars...
would not use them if their were the last pad on earth!

Last time out I used Brembo Sport Pads

Fronts: 24743 (Ford Focus RS)
Rears: 23326 (Audi R)
Thanks Scuffers, opens up a whole new level of options (including DS2500's) what's the dust level like with the brembos?

Thanks then both. Looks like it's standard then that dipped doesn't light up green for the S4. Seems strange that it does for the S5 though!

I know it's first world problems and all that, but in these dim mornings when it's on Auto I like to know whether it's the sidelights or dipped beam that is on, and there is no way of knowing. I checked tonight, and the centre console lights up whether it is sidelights or dipped beam.

Not sure what you mean? If the switch is set to Auto, you will ether get dipped beam or DRL's. If your dipped beam is on the green light (side light) indicator will light up.

Maybe me being thick then. Auto doesn't turn sidelights on?

Well is not as simple as that...biggrin The DRL's are also the side lights... But no Auto doesn't use the side lights only DRL's

...but back lights aren't necessarily on when DRLs are on! Too flippin complicated for my tiny brain to compute... I need to ditch Auto and sitck to turning lights on and off myself...

Haha you're right so... Switch set to side lights rear lights will also come on with the DRL's, however if the switch is set to Auto the car will only use off (DRL's only) and dipped beam depending on what the photocell tells it to do.

you can set rear lights to come on with DLR's - I've done it on my car as I think its safer to have them on at all times

I think the vehicle options menu also lets you adjust how soon you want the auto lights to switch on.

Mine seem to come on at dusk, when I would be putting on my sidelights in another car anyway.

Interesting. Is that in the "car" menus? Not noticed that.

Will try to find that as well then.

Still don't know why the bleedin' dipped beam symbol can't light up when dipped beam is on. Ridiculous!!

If the lights are set to auto and its dark enought to need headlights the light symbol on the light switch will illuminate Green. If the DRLs are on alone (no rear lights) the light symbol will be red. This is how it works on all VAG products. This is the symbol on the switch itself, not in the dash pack.

"Sports Differential System Fault". Oh dear eek

Not just come on once, but a number of times weeping

Booked in to dealers. Needs new sports diff! £6k part + labour yikes

Thank fk for the warranty readit

But the part is on back-order, so currently no idea when I will get the car back. No courtesy car (for now), so not much driving for a while maybe. But no driving means I can do drink whenever I want!
