I wanted manual. I had to compromise too.

It would be that much close to perfect for my daily needs, if it was manual. I wouldn't even mind the £460 car tax, that it would bring.

New clutch and flywheel are still performing perfectly,
How did you find the new clutch compared to the old one? eg. noticeably lighter pedal, smoother changes, less judder, etc.

All of the above, completely different pedal feel and no judder.

Was it like that straight away after changing? It didn't need a bedding-in time for example?

It took about 500miles, at first the pedal was stiffer and the clutch was a bit snatchy.

Interesting. Thanks. Snatchy, as in it was almost as if you were releasing too quickly (like a learner), and it kind of kangaroos?

That's what mine is doing, but in other cars the clutch has been much better IMMEDIATELY after changing, so (not being mechanically minded enough) I am not sure why the S4 should be any different, or why it is doing what it is doing at all. frown

How long since your clutch and flywheel change? If I remember it was around the time mine was done?

Hi guys,

How long should a clutch usually last, for manual and DSG boxes?

Manual - how long is a piece of string question, that. Depends on driving style and usage mainly. There was a design weakness so most do seem to need doing sooner than you'd maybe think. Flywheel is a big expense as well as a load of updated fork parts, but pattern dual mass flywheel makes it a lot more reasonable

DSG - if oil change is done on time it should go on to high mileages with no parts needed. It'll either work perfectly, drop the ECU at about £1k, or die completely and cost you £5k+

The Audi "Configurator" was just updated showing the two new "S4 Nav" models. Basically Satnav is included, but list price rises about £400.

Based on that, is there any point in a non-iPhone owner specifying the Audi Music Interface?

All gone a bit quiet, so...

Recommendations for roof bars for an Avant? Thinking whispbars http://www.roofbox.co.uk/roof-bars/roof-bars-prora... but interested in what others have gone for.

Will also be looking for bike carriers as well. (can you put 4 on the roof?).

Whispbar with roof rails makes good sense if you intend to use T track fittings to attach anything. Keeps it all nice and low profile. Thule do a very similar low line bar now. Only downside might be the width required to get 4 bike carriers on - obviously you can stagger them to give handlebar space, but it's still going to be tight. 3 fits easily enough but you may need bars that stick out over the edge of the roof rails.

Also be wary of weight - if they're all lightweight then no problem, but it's pretty easy to hit the weight limit with x4 bikes, x4 carriers and the bars themselves.

If you regularly need to carry 4 I'd be very tempted to get a removable towbar and a clamp on bike carrier - less aggro to load and better on fuel too. Plus the weight limit on a tow hitch is far higher than the roof will take

Only started looking tonight, so "T track fittings" means nothing to me? boxedin

Hadn't really thought about the roof weight limit? What is it?

The weight limit is usually stated for the bars - worth checking the instructions which you can usually download off their web sites. 75-100kg springs to mind. Just be clear whether that's incl the bars or if you need to take their weight into consideration!

T track fittings were developed by Thule and are basically captive bolts that slide into channels on the bar from the side, so you don't need to clamp anything round them. They give much better location and positive locking. All the aero profile bars are usually too fat to take old style clamps that lock round the bars anyway. Thule bike carriers come with them and roof boxes have them as a cheap option which takes up much less space than the supplied clamps.

With what x4 decent bike carriers, plus bars will cost, I'd seriously consider the towbar mounting option - I've been looking at it for our S5 Sportback, which we have the OEM bars for, as I need to be able to carry 2-3 bikes and/or a roofbox when we go on holiday.

Got my stage 1 completed with air filter and Stronic map. Result from 342PS/453Nm to 443PS/530Nm
Tremendous fun, the car now rev to the red line. The acceleration is amazing. Impressively quick from 90mph to 120mph + (on a private road of course!!!).

However not all rosy. I was having so much fun that I used up 2/3 of a tank and only did 180 miles. And I better watch my speed as I can see I can lose my license easily!!!!

Thanks Adrian. Looks like I have lots to look into!

In other news, just been out for a bit of a blast. I think my clutch and flywheel are now bedded in, but taken a good 800 miles or so. Never really had that in other cars, but definitely feels better now.
