The kickdown can be avoided by not pressing the kickdown switch wink

Is this at the end of the throttle travel? My BMW has it, but doesn't activate in manual mode.

yes

Never really knew if it was "normal" or not, despite assurances from the dealer that "they all do that Sir" (and then not being able to explain why, hence me thinking "they may all do that but maybe they're all faulty then!!).

Its not a switch, its about rate of change in the throttle pedal, the faster you stab at the pedal, the more it reacts, even if you only push it a small amount.

Kickdown is a switch. You can feel it. That's not to say in auto the gearbox won't change down for other conditions.

Not that i have ever noticed/felt.

Next time your driving, just tap the throttle sharply without much travel and see what happens.

I know the box will downshift. Kickdown is behaviour specific to full pedal travel. The point of resistance is a switch.

"When the accelerator pedal is pressed right down past the point of resistance at full throttle, the gearbox will shift down to a lower gear, depending on road speed and engine speed. The upshift to the next higher gear is delayed until the engine reaches maximum rpm."

If it's any consolation, I've had my last three services paid for by Audi smile

Chaps quick question...do I want to bother with the sports diff for £650?

Also why are audi flogging 2012 cars for c.35k when you can get a brand spanking new one for the same price? They trying one on? I ask as I'm fairly impatient but seems bonkers not to go new

No more new ones?

Don't think many people managed the 20% off via car brokers

a: Supply and demand
b: Impatient people...
c: ...who don't realize you can negotiate a discount on forecourt prices of s/h cars/

And d, Some dealers can't take orders for new ones any more.

I'm having mine done today.

Excessive cost, but you need to keep the warranty.

Tried it this morning, it works. It is to do with how fast you press the throttle. if you do it slowly to the floor, nothing will happen. the car was like on a rocket if you floor it quickly. specially I had an MRC stage 1 done. Make sure you have plently of room in front before you try. These cars are a weapon!! PS MY2011 for mine.

S4 ordered! smile Ended up driving a newer version with the Drive Control and the diff, in my head it seemed a lot better. I also drove a 335i an hour after and didn't like it as much. One odd thing was that the 335i didn't feel different enough to my current M135i to change, it just felt like a bigger version and wasn't as good.

So, I'll get my build date soon, they are saying they might be able to modify an order they have as early as July, so I could see the car in August.
