We're considering one of these as a replacement for our aging Impreza. It would be a 2010 car.
What are the service intervals and is there a menu pricing list anywhere?
I'll plough through this thread but nay brief pointers much appreciated.

S4 ordered! smile Ended up driving a newer version with the Drive Control and the diff, in my head it seemed a lot better. I also drove a 335i an hour after and didn't like it as much. One odd thing was that the 335i didn't feel different enough to my current M135i to change, it just felt like a bigger version and wasn't as good.

So, I'll get my build date soon, they are saying they might be able to modify an order they have as early as July, so I could see the car in August.
Would you mind sharing which dealer? Most seem to be saying no more orders now....

Good work! Keep us posted on your build week. I'm still waiting on one having ordered late April!

Cars over three years old fall into Audi's fixed price services so
Interim £199
Major. £399

That's how I chose one.
Its no STI, but it is more understated and you can park it place where you would have avoided in the Impreza.

Also worth noting there's a 3-5 yr old service plan covering a minor and major service for £399. Doesn't cover s-tronic service (£169) or cabin pollen filter (£21 DIY or a lot more in the dealer) but covers plugs, air filter etc.

Our S5 is in getting serviced today....potentially a new instrument cluster going in, have asked them to check for coolant leak as the header tank is half full, also queried oil consumption.

If anyone is trading in or thinking of selling their 09 or 10 S4 then please let me know as I've sold my car now and have cash in the bank ready to go, so it would be a quick sale of me coming to see the car, and if as described taking it there and then with a bank transfer.

Cannot find a sensibly priced car with the right spec (ideally DSG and B&O), not in red. The prices seem all over the place for these and very spec/colour sensitive.

Thanks

Let us know how you get on, mine is still using a tiny amount of coolant (from the max mark to half way mark in 4k miles).

Should hopefully find out soon. They might be able to adjust a build they have in the pipeline.

I'm looking to getting it.

Well the obligatory bodge it and scarper approach to customer service....

Coolant loss (it's sitting at half way between min and max) = 'no evidence of leaks'
Oil usage = 'within acceptable limits' (did I read write that there's a revised PCV that reduces usage?)

They billed me for a gearbox oil change at the old fixed price rate (I noticed yesterday it's gone up to £175) but their invoice says 'gearbox oil change' and doesn't mention a filter. The parts listed are just the oil and a seal, which ETKA tells me is for the filter housing, so it's probably been changed. Just weird that they don't list it!

Flickering dash lighting - can't replicate it sir (I gave them a video of it) but yes the cluster will need changing and here's a handful of change from £1k to change it. What? You expect Audi dash clusters to last more than 4 years? Are you mad, sir? I left at that point....

What exactly is flickering?

Is it one of the warning lamps, or the illumination of the whole unit?

It's the LEDs on the speedo - from 0-80mph so about a third of the way round. Tends to only do it at night, and hasn't been doing it as much now the weather is warmer.

Caught it on video when parked and it's done it a number of other times when I've not been able to record.

I'm waiting for a response from the dealer on how we move forward - I'm of the view that a component like that shouldn't fail during the life of the car (i.e. at least 10 years) and they should be suitably confident in the quality of the components used if they're going to integrate them into the PCB rather than making them a serviceable item. A few flickering LEDs on a car with less than 35k miles in 4 years shouldn't require the customer to reach for a 4 figure sum!

Adrian I've seen the flickering you describe once before on an S4; ended up getting an auto electrician (Cartronix in Waterlooville) to replace all of the LEDs and the controller. I think it cost a couple of hundred quid.

Thanks Alex - that's worth knowing.

I still begrudge a £55k car having a key component fitted that can't last more than 4 years, when it should last 10+ years with ease, so will see where this goes.

That indicative cost is less than the excess on our warranty, so looks a better option if it doesn't get resolved by Audi.

A bit off subject, but I lived in Waterlooville for two years.

sorry,

Sounds about right unfortunately, when I went in with the cold start rattle they first looked at the video I took said that doesn't sound right! Then turned around and said its normal producing a TSB!

My fear with the coolant leakage is that it's the heat exchangers within the supercharger, because like yours there is no sign of a leak on mine. I am going to add some UV dye to the coolant before I remove the supercharger to replace the PCV valve just to make sure... Meanwhile my 11 year old Focus ST170 solders on without issue doing double the mileage of the S4 per year....

To be fair to the car I've never noticed where the coolant level has been sat since we bought the car - they've topped it up to max so I'll now monitor whether it disappears again. It's in the service book that it should be topped up at this service anyway, if necessary. I'm generally of the view that thimblefuls should evaporate from a sealed system over a period of years. My 2002 S8 doesn't use a drop!

I would still love some clarity on engines affected by the fuel rail problems that are now being recalled for remedial work. I've not seen VIN ranges or if it's S4 only, not other applications with the v6t engine. Can't see that the fuel rails would be any different between the models? If they were going to strip all that out I'd be tempted to pay for a replacement PCV if it reduced the oil usage.

Last car I had that I carried a bottle of oil around for was a Mk1 Golf GTI 1.6 that ran like a 2 stroke when I had it!

Well, all done. Only cost £268 in the end but the dealer failed to meet the guaranteed two hours taking two hours thirty minutes. Worthless guarantee then ...

Well the service itself is 1.9 hours but efficiency on these should be pretty good. Add to that checking it in, getting it on the ramp and cleaning it afterwards...
