Looks like RS4 & 5 are getting a 'new' twin turbo 3 litre 6:

http://fourtitude.com/news/Audi_News_1/rs-4-avant-...

Could be:

Chopped 4.0 TT
Turbo'd 3.0 TFSI
Downsized Macan motor (which is an evolution of the 3.0 TFSI I think?)

I'd put money on it being the Macan engine.

Their being developed together makes sense as the ancestry and architecture are so similar.

What box do we reckon they'll use? I'd err on an evolution of the current B8 RS setup but will it/could it take all that torque/abuse?

Would be great if they made a Porsche sized RS4. Panamera is too big.

If the new RS4 gets a 3ltr 6 cylinder twin turbo (Macan Turbo engine), the S4 will more likely have the single turbo version (Macan S) or possible even a 4 or 5 cyl engine.

Back on topic, my new car has arrived at Guildford Colbornes today :-). Hope to collect Monday at the latest.

Revo for week 2.... ;-)

Probably not

Did anyone negotiate a good service pack etc on a new S4 in the last couple of months?

S4 with the 2.5 TFSI from the hotter TT/RS3? 370bhp-odd puts it nearly 10% up on the 3.0 TFSI in standard tune. Would hark back to the UrS4 with its 2.2 20v I5 turbo too.

Yes, ive often thought Audi missed a trick not using the straight 5 in a longitudinal layout, not so much with the S4/RS4 but in the A5 with the coupe/quattro history.

The link above says theyre sticking with the supercharged unit for the S4. Its just been updated anyway, the MY15 models have additional injectors so somethings afoot.

Interesting so there is a B8, B8.5 and B8.6? :-)

Is there a link which says what this years S4 has over last years for example?

There was a concept/mule A5 running the I5 with a manual box and torque vectoring rear diff but it never went beyond that stage.

I think Audi like keeping the identity of the smaller RS cars distinct.

Ive not seen any tech articals on it, just the engine model number has changed and seen mention of it on the S5 forum, the engine has port injection as well as direct. None of the tuners have maps for this new engine yet.

Yes, if i could build a car out of Audis parts bin, that would be it. Remember seeing an artical on that on Fourtitude.

My S4 Avant is also due to land at Colbornes today or tomorrow. I don't think I'll be getting it until next week as my sales guy is on holiday until Friday. if you do go in keep your eyes open for a Sepang BE Avant with the peeler wheels. And please let me know if you do a good deal on the service pack.

Maybe, yes; I don't know if the RS4 one fits. I've never seen it done.

I've got roof mounting carriers for mine but if starting from scratch I'd go for a towbar mounted carrier, although a factory towbar isn't cheap....
Yeah towbar etc looks expensive!

Which roof bars have you gone for? OEM, or (say) Thule? Wasn't sure if I went down OEM whether the Thule bike carriers would still work, or whether you then need OEM bike carriers.

Though I know nothing about them, I didn't know if OEM were a better "fit" to the rails, if made specifically for the B8 S4? (I may be completely making this up...)

There's an A1 Motor Store 2 mins walk from my house, and he's got a big display of Thule stuff - will take a wander down at the weekend I think, try and clue myself up a bit!

OEM bars are made by Thule, so whichever you go for will work fine and accept the same accessories. I'd also look at Whispbar which sit lower to the roof and are quieter, generally, although Thule Wingbars are very similar. Fitting bars on an avant is very easy - used them on our A6 and it's a lot easier than with a saloon or hatch! The advantage of OEM over Thule is there's no messing about with width and because you don't have interchangeable bits they tend to sit lower on the car

Thule bike carriers as well - T section fittings slide on from the sides of the bars so no messing about with clamps - same with our roof box too.

Check out http://www.skidrive.co.uk/roof-racks/roof-bars/aer... used them a lot for buying bits and bobs and their prices are usually very good, or find someone (like me!) with a halfords trade card!

Thanks Adrian, very helpful as always.

Just went into my local A1 Motor Store, very helpful chap. Obviously nowhere near as cheap as Amazon or online places, but I am happy (to an extent) to pay more for personal service, convenience (I can walk there from my house), after-care if I need it, etc, as well as wanting to support a local (useful) business.

Liked the look of the Thule wing bars (not the Edge or slide ones), and the 591 carriers - the latter are certainly not cheap!! I've got a printed out quote in the car, but I think it was around £470 for Wing bars, fitting kits/adaptors, 4 x 591 carriers, basically everything I would need to fit on the Avant's flush rails. I would probably also get the universal key, so I don't end up with 5 different keys - that was £20 I think.

Can electric folding door mirrors be retrofitted? Starting to garage the car now, and both wing mirrors have a couple mm at absolute max on either side, so it's a tight fit!

Instructions here:

Not cheap to do, but should be possible to pick up a 2nd hand pair of mirror bodies and re-use your existing caps if the price of new makes you wince!
