Update having covered just over 1000 miles now having returned from Saint Lo.

Steering has improved considerably, therefore assume brand new tyres created the light steering.

360 - 385 miles covered on a full tank of super unleaded (BP 97). This is mainly motorway and dividing by 13 gallons gives approx. 27-29 mpg.

Front sensors fitted by VAG Tech, cost to Audi was £533 as they advised it was standard fitment on the black edition.

Exhaust noise is improving :-)

First damage - pushing front seat too far back into kid seat base and denting plastic backing of drivers seat :-(

I wish it was manual. It's bloody sad that nobody seems to make a 300+ BHP estate with a manual 'box.

My B8 averaged 24/25mpg. Only once, on a 50 mile motorway cruise sticking to 70mph, did I ever crack 30mpg. My B8.5 easily cracks 32/33mpg on the motorway, with a best of 35 so I've never bothered going for max economy (too boring) and averages 27/28 with mixed driving (1/3 of my commute is town driving) but to go with that the B8.5 is noticeably slower, and I'd wager less powerful than the 8 (which put out 350bhp on the rollers) but is actually probably around the quoted figure.

That's likely the 2014 CREC engine, rather than the facelift? But I'd guess later cars have also put on weight compared to early ones, due to power tailgates and similar 'features'.

While crawling about under mine at the weekend changing my springs, I was rather shocked at the state of some of the metalwork under there, In particular the rear sub frame which seems to be rusting away at quite a pace.
Now I appreciate that its a 6 year old car now and that the metal is a good thickness but I do wonder just how long its going to last? The paint was very thin and falling off in sheets. My last 3 series was in much better shape underneath at twice the age.
I did my best to clean it up and apply some anti rust primer. (pretty pointless but made me feel better)
Don't know if this is typicall or if I've got a bad 'un. Dr G?

On the subject of MPG's my manual will return 30/31 on a run at legal speeds.

Mine was almost as bad as that, I discussed it with Audi at it's last service and they claim the subframe is a consumable part and is not covered by the body warranty irked

On a separate note I have the following bits going for free if anyone wishes to collect them from Ashford Kent:

1 X Dipstick

1 X litre of G13 antifreeze (opened)

1 X litre of Power steering fluid (opened)

1 X litre of rear diff oil (normal not sports, enough to do a change) new unopened

I tried to PM you but the PH hamsters were having none of it. I'd be interested in the dipstick smile

I'll try to PM again.

My brake pads warning light came on yesterday... So is it worth it to do DIY on the pads if I haven't got a caliper tool and would need to buy pads? Audi are doing fixed price £169 for the front pads inc labour.... How much would DIY be saving me?

IMO £169 doesn't seem to bad at all, for the history and also if I did DIY'd I'd know I'd smashed my knuckles up, get frustrated and wish I'd paid someone smile

Oh and that is VERY worrying re the subframe, wouldn't a new one be a massive cost?

Also the b8 59 plate S4 is defilement ET43 right?

That's not a rotor; it's a similar wheel from the Audi accessories catalogue.

There was a silly special offer on a set of those a few years back.

Definitely not rotors. A completely different wheel.

Rotors have a much smaller machine cut on the spokes, should be 8,5Jx19 ET 43 and part number: 8K0601025AR I believe

You can get them new from Audi dealers in Germany via eBay for ~£350 each which seems reasonable given a good set seems to command over a grand second hand.

Fronts or rears?
fronts are standard easy to do, rears need VCDS or box of tricks to retract handbrake.

Just came across a thread on Audi-Sport.net and it seems these were standard fitment on the A4 "Dynamik" which was a 2011 limited edition spec. A Google image search of "A4 Dynamik" seems to bring up loads of pictures if you wanted to see more cars with them on.

Many thanks, smile

Personally not a fan after seeing the pics on the car.
