Whisper bars are the best, they are silent and don't affect mpg like the oem bars.

Hi all,

Has anyone upgraded the sub in their B&O equipped car? I've always found the bass the weakpoint of the system, it seems others have too and many replaced the sub with good results

http://www.audiworld.com/forums/s4-b8-platform-dis...

This can be done without an additional amp, but the sub in question (a JL) is no longer available, seems hard to find 10" 8ohm suitable subs. I just wondered if anyone on here had done it?

Thanks

Hi.

I'm going to look at this carhttp://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201510057509850/sort/locasc/postcode/eh345dy/radius/1500/make/audi/model/s4_avant/price-from/15000/price-to/30000/page/1/usedcars?desc=1

Any thoughts on spec? I'm ideally looking for an 8.5 car with sports different but haven't driven anything as yet.

Seems good spec, all the right options except the 18" wheels and lack of sports seats, not major issue. Not sure how cheap it is, I guess its low mileage though.
Its hard to get every option you want and the right price/miles/location etc.

It has he b&o, and nav, MMI - which are all essential IMO. It's got the ADS too which is nice, I do love my sports seats but thats your call on that one, the standards are ok. Wheels can be changed but can be hard to find in the right offset sometimes, I'm looking for 19" Segments and in ET43 they seem very rare!
Overall its a good spec and I don't think its missing anything you'd kick yourself over.

Just check its got a good service record, check the oil level (via the screen, using the 'car' button by the gearstick. Black is a b*tch to keep clean though! Check the bodywork over, usual stuff.

Sunroof is nice to have on the Avants, especially with an all black interior as it gives you the choice to let some light in there

Check the ADS options by looking under 'Car' menu option and there's an individual setup option - it'll have engine/gearbox and steering as a bare minimum - if you can see the option to configure suspension and diff then it has those too. If they're not listed, it's missing from the spec.

Easy to tell it's not a facelift, by the shape of the front fogs, but I'm assuming you know that smile

No seat memory, which almost inevitably means no electric folding mirrors (they can be specced on their own, but often aren't) and no auto dimming exterior mirrors most likely.

I concur that black is a nightmare - our S5 Sportback is black

Looks fairly well specced, but no Sports Diff.

Seats and wheels are just personal taste. I specifically bought a non-Black Edition, because I didn't want 19" rims.

I'd not get hung up on one without a sports diff, if it ticked all other boxes. A set of ARBs and some decent tyres (Michelin PSS) will give grip levels high enough for most mere-mortals.

Black is a pain to keep clean, but looks the best when it is smile

Winters on this morning for their last season.

Anyone have thoughts on running some modern All Season tyres on an S4 (or more likely will go with Summers from Spring then change to ASs next Autumn). I'm not forever chucking it into corners (I ahve the TVR for that)

I've been looking at Continental ExtremContact DWS as a compromise summer/winter tire for when I burn through the OEM Conti's. Get's good reviews for the S4 on various Audi sites.

The new Michelin Cross Climate looks an interesting option for year round use. Personally I prefer to run a smaller wheel with more tyre sidewall in winter so gone down the 2 sets route. Have factory 20s for summer with Mich Super Sports and s-line 5 spokes in 8.5x18 with Dunlop Winter 3D which is the approved winter tyre. Don't want to use the nice rims on salted roads - the 18s were a bargain, already fitted with the winters which will be doing their 2nd winter for us this year smile

Unfortunately not my deposit, although they are going to let me know if it falls through. The below seems more like what I'm after in terms of age and milage but it's a bit of trek to find its not as described etc http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

I am a bit of fashion when it comes to tools. Never believe in one size fits all idea. It often means yes it can do everything, just not very well.

I run a set of proper winter tyres on my standard 18" and bought a set of 19" for my summers. The winter tyres were amazing when we had the heavy snow back in 2012/2013 winter.

The weather here is a bit too changeable, really. It can be 90f one day, then 20f and snowing heavily the next. Or even later the same day. All seasons aren't a bad compromise for that reason, especially if, like me currently, you don't have to commute and can virtually guarantee the snow will be gone the next day.
I've run winters before when I HAD to be out, and they were excellent, but too compromised now I don't.

And therein lies the real problem for the UK, SE at least. My (19") winters were great for the whole week we had snow 12/13. Don't think I've seen a drop since. Driving on the winters for 2 days so far has reminded me what a 'jelly wobble' ride it is. ASs are more suited to the (SE) UK climate

Careful what you wish for?!?!? as far as the hear say forecast said, it may be a harsh winter this year. I know what you mean about the jelly ride. They are apparently performing better in the wet weather too, which makes sense if you look at the grooves they have on winters. I took my car to the Alps every year for skiing, so the winters have been helpful.

Went there with the summers set at the first year of the ownership of the car. The car didn't get stuck thanks to the quattro, but it has no grip what so ever, could not brake and could not do sharp turns. Never feel so scared in my life. Snail pace down the slope, and give way to any cars that is behind me.
