Hi guys,

Hopefully joining the B8.5 S4 club soon! Deposit placed this morning.

Pretty much the spec i wanted apart from the red and black supersports seats which i hope i will like more in the flesh!

active cruise
Sports diff

Noticed this today

Why do I get the feeling this little LED is going to cost me.
Oh the joys of modern cars!

I'm in the same boat; one LED gone. I may try to resolder as it sort of failed slowly.

My main problem is a inescapable plod towards mechatronic doom. Not looking forward to that one

What's the concensus in terms of remapping? Is AMD seen as one of the better ones?

If I were to actually do it, I'd like to be able to switch between maps for when it's serviced etc...

Had this on the last B8, out of warrentee, Audi replaced it FOC (called it a manufacturing defect)

Before they did, I checked out Ebay, genuine ones for not too silly money (seem to remember the inner right was £85)

Depends if you're going stage 1 or 2. Nothing really beats MRC for stage 2 with relatively minor work. I wouldn't worry too much about warranty as anything that's logged in gearbox ecu over torque won't go away if you remove the map

As far as trying to mend it goes, that was my first thought as I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron and I'm sure you could source an LED suitable, but having had a look at the unit now there's no easy way of opening it.
And if you did cut your way in you are then stuck with how do you make it whole again.
Ridiculous really as it would of been easy at the design stage to make it user serviceable, but that's not what they want is it?
Does anybody know if the unit is coded to the car? as that will be the next problem.

So any remapping that changes the torque is logged, so it's simple to check if the car has had a remap at one point?

If a remap has a significant enough influence on power and torque for the TCU to detect 'overload' scenarios from more torque being applied than the box is expecting to see, it will log each of those events. It doesn't flag it in a way that it shows up in VCDS, but it will show up on thorough interrogation at dealer level if a box came in with a fault and you were looking for a warranty replacement.

The RS3 (the old one) certainly has this function, as I've known someone have a warranty claim rejected for that reason, and their car 'black listed' on Audi's dealer system for future warranty claims.

Basically most dealers don't care if a car has been remapped, so long as you're not taking the mickey with a warranty claim clearly based on out of tolerance performance. I've known of people successfully having a map removed before taking the car in for a warranty box repair and no issues, but I've no idea how far they look into the software before agreeing the claim. I suspect if Audi request it they have to do it....

Thanks for the detailed answer, I guess it's a case of if you car is in warranty 'you pays your money...'. I might hold off a little bit, the car has only done 5k at the moment.

Correct me if I'm wrong but seem to recall us both buying S4's at a similar time, in which case you've got the CREC engine which at this point in time means a remap is off the cards in any case. Tuning boxes from DTUK, MTM or ABT will work, but nobody has cracked the Simos 16 ECU yet. All the key players are working on it, but have been for quite some time and it's not looking imminent. Helps prevent me rushing off to MRC with a 3 month old car though!

I don't think you are wrong, I picked mine up in June or July I think (it's been a busy year!)

Someone like Cartronix would probably be able to repair/replace for you.

Just wonder if anyone has installed a Strut bar on their B8 S4? does it help with the lumpy heavy nosed understeer handling?

The US seems to favour the 'Alu Kreuz' to improve the handling.

Let us know how you get on. I'm always a bit wary of US reviews as they can be overly enthusiastic.
