Don't forget that the roof slopes down more on the s5 though.

I have an s4 and we are due our first baby soon, s4 maybe too tight for two children eventually, so I may need to upgrade to an rs6. Wife asked if child no two would be an incentive to buy an rs6, I replied HELL YES smile

I don't have 2 kids but what is the reason the S4 is too small? I've had 2 adults in the back before without issue. We are due our 1st and the car seat/base does seem to take up a fair bit of room but should be ok I thought.

How much bigger is the rear in an RS6? Or is it that the boot is bigger etc and thats the reason?

The 'tombstone' seats do seem massive but apparently they don't make a big difference over standard in terms of space taken up.

Need to investigate my exhaust rasp, maybe its a heatsheild or the baffles.

Really?! eekconfused

I think they're massive, and easily enough room for our 2 kids, their stuff, driving on hols for 2 weeks in France, etc. And if you really need to, get a roof box? (rent one?).

For years, we had a mk5 Golf GTi as the main family car, which is waaay smaller than the S4 (IMO) and we easily coped with 2 kids in that, no roof box etc.

Maybe I'm good at packing efficiently smile

Or maybe I'm mean to the kids... "no, you can't take any toys mad "

I bought a Recaro seat (performance coupe) for our newborn. No hope of sitting in a front seat with that behind you - I had to have the drivers seat fully forward for it to fit in the rear.

A good justifcation for an RS6, indeed!

We test drove S4s before buying our S5 Sportback - we could live with either as a family of 3 and it just came down to what cropped up with the spec we wanted at the time.

My wife and I are both 5ft9 and she can sit behind me on motorway journeys without complaint. Sprog more than happy in his high back booster at getting on for 6 yrs. We move the front passenger seat forward just to stop him kicking the crap out of it!

The width of the Supersports seats you get standard in the S5 and lower roofline does make it feel more enclosed than an S4 avant with std seats, but not much difference with the saloon. My wife loves driving it although I hankering after a C6 RS6 and an i3 for balance....

My boys are 10 and soon to be 7.
I sat in the back after setting my seat and it felt spacious enough to me.
Boot is reasonable size and I was very impressed with the performance and all round drive.

I've always liked the look of the sportback, it's a bit marmite, but if my current car sells tomorrow I'll be pulling the trigger on the S5 Monday morning I reckon.

I need to get a detachable tow bar fitted, I know, I know, it will look ridiculous towing a van, but it's replacing my tow vehicle, but only for short trips 3 or 4 times a year.
I refuse to go camping, and the caravan was the compromise a year or so ago.

Anyone have problems with B8 tramlining? Tonight on the M3 in the wet, it was terrible all over the road.

Thoughts?

I am as well, I thought it might be to do with tyre pressures

as said, that's mostly down to the tyres, in my experience, some are just more prone than others, Pirelli were the worst for this.

It's a newish car only done about 10,000 miles so will be on original tyres.

It's on Contisports contact 3 255/35 ZR19s

It's the first car I have had that does it....

Never had problem with mine, but I'm on the 18" rims with narrower tyres.

To be fair, 255/35 tyres are always goin to be problematic.

I found kuhmo's the least prone to tramlining

Sorry to keep banging on about this, but does anyone have any info regarding cracking the ECU in the 2014 onwards S4/5's?! I'm really enjoying the S4, but knowing what it's capable of and not having the ability to remap it is painful. I'm basically trying to get a feel for whether it's likely to be another 3-6 months or whether APR/Revo/MRC etc will just give up. It's been well over 12 months that they have all been attempting to crack it. Otherwise I may look at sticking my name down for the b9 rs4 if I'm not careful!

ABT and MTM offer upgrades for CREC engines. MTM is some kind of 'external' system, and ABT must be milled from solid unobtanium, based on the price.

Same for me, I've noticed it more as the temperature has dropped a little

It's a tuning box; one of the better known tuners did a 'back to back' with the MTM unit and were not overly complimentary about it.

I'll try and find the comparison but I've a feeling it was published on Facebook and for obvious reasons doesn't mention the competitor's name.

change the tyres then.

I knew it would make a difference, but I was not prepared for the dramatic change in handling and feel a change in tyres made. (this was going from PZero's to Kuhmo KU31's).

up to that point, I had just accepted that tramlining was a characteristic of the car with 225/35R19's on it, could not have been more wrong!
