So I had somebody hit me yesterday. They only hit the wing mirror, but the glass was left hanging down from the wires that control the motor. However, I've managed to put it back and the folding in function and the indicators in the housing still work.

Does anybody know if this is a replacement body from Audi or I can get just the glass?
£356.67 + VAT!!!!! For the glass if I wanted the 'Automatic Anti-Dazzle Technology'. £60 without it...

Okay I may sort of answer my own question. It seems rev limiter was lowered from 6800 to 6200 between b8 and b8.5....
was it?

I know the gearbox change points moved down, but was not aware the rev limiter was moved?

That's kind of an academic distinction. As it's S-tronic only, the gerbox change points ARE the rev limits. Even in manual you can't rev beyond the change limits.

??

you can hit the rev-limiter before it changes gear...

Yes, this will force it to change gear, but, it will hit the limiter first (in Manual)

Like I said, I don't believe the limiter itself has been moved, just the change points when in auto.

That's very weird. Not on mine. Select S, D or M - makes no difference. First gear, boot it and don't touch the paddles. It changes up smoothly with that distinctive DSG 'brrarp' at 6200 in each gear.

All the S4 'launch control' videos seem to show this behaviour too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_V94QGlzpw I've never seen the rev counter needle go beyond 6200/6300 RPM on mine, no matter what I do.

never tried that (as in launch control?) just in general driving and booting it from low speeds, often hit the limiter in 1st and 2nd.

I only tried 'launch' once to check it worked smile But no, the change up at 6200 is exactly the behaviour I get in general driving/booting it. What year is your car, what revs does the 'limiter' kick in at, and what do you feel/hear when it reaches the limiter?

I believe the STronic behaves like a conventional rev limiter on upshifts anyway, by tweaking the ignition timing during the gearchange.

Left or right mirror?

Left should be convex and right aspherical

Left should be £250 incl VAT, right should be £345 incl VAT

Forgot to ask what year yours is. For a 2011 the part number is 8F0 857 536H and the RRP is £345.50 and I'd usually expect a minimum of 10% off that price for new

Used one here:

OK, that's the correct part number for yours then smile You will most likely find 6TS PR code in your service book, which will confirm it's aspherical right mirror.

You legend! That's the matching part number.

I think the inside of mine is borked though, the bottom piece of the thing that goes across the circle is snapped.

Looks like that's available on its own, so if the adjustment and folding mechanism are all good you should be able to get 8T0 959 578 for £57.62 RRP

Best bet is to find your local TPS and get them to have a look to confirm what you need smile

I can send you a pdf of the page from Etka with part numbers and descriptions, if it helps? Will show all the options then

My 2012 B8.5 is the same as silentbrown, can't get it above 6200 whatever mode the engine/box is in. The B8 S-Tronic seems to rev ~500 rpm higher before shifting from what I've read.

Thanks, I would be grateful if you could send that over. Is the PM system working at the moment?

Hi all.

I'm close to putting a deposit down on a b8 s4. i understand that they are almost bulletproof minus water pumps on earlier models. My question is how many of you guys have been affected by the mechatronic issue that plagues VW's DSG's. I'm looking at models around the 09/59/10 mark. I dont really want to be buying one that could potentially throw up mechatronic issues for obvious reasons.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

All the mechatronic issues are with the transverse box (A3/Golf/etc)

Not seen any reports of issues with the 7speed longitudinal box.

I have got 59plate for sale with Audi Warranty which takes care of any mechatronic concerns... Email me if you are interested.

There have been reports of issues with s-tronic boxes - the difficulty is in differentiating between the actual fault and the course of action taken by the dealers to rectify it!

If you get fault codes logged that aren't sensor related the next port of call is the mechatronics unit at about £1k. If that fails to fix it, it's new box time at several times more than that, subject to any goodwill you can get out of Audi.

I'm aware of a few boxes ending up being changed - but not many compared to the number of cars out there fitted with them.

Earlier cars seem to be worst affected, before the running production change to a cartridge replacement oil filter for the gearbox at some point in 2010. Any car that gets a replacement box gets the later filter setup.

Our 2011 has given no cause for concern, aside from flagging a warning message once that seems to be sensor value related and has never come back.
