They do an "Essentials" warranty on named parts that includes gearbox and engine etc up to the value of the car for about £250 though, might be worth considering to protect the big scary bits
Still has a claim limit of £1000 though doesn't it? Just looked again now. The "scary bits" on an S4 are way more than £1000... frown

Not on the quote I did (2012 S4 with 60k miles)

Ahh, that PPV option wasn't there for me. £1000 was top value. 2010 S4.

I just upped it to 61k miles and the ppv option disappears, perhaps the same with age if you're under 60k?

No, any miles and £1k is the top.

Must be the age then, perhaps sub 5 years only?

It won't be the lock that's failing though so you'll be ok. Mine was covered under warranty when I had the same problem (unless they've changed it since then! ). It's something to do with the handle mechanism rather than the actual lock so warranty should be covering that.
ps. do you know if that is stored as a fault code? Obviously on the day the door will be fine, and I don't want the "sorry sir, no fault found, that's £60 diagnostic fee please"-speech.

I don't think it is. Although when I went in with mine they knew what it was straight away. It's a fairly common fault from what they told me so they should be able to deal with it even if it's not playing ball on the day.

Good to hear! Was yours playing up at the time or did they just take your word for it based on it being a known fault?

Yeah it was to the point that it didn't open from the outside at all when I took it in. I'd mentioned it previously to them when it was still an intermittent problem. They thought they had a good idea what was causing it at the time and told me to book it in but I delayed a bit as it seemed to be working ok for a while. Eventually it came back and then just stopped working.

4-wheel alignment done today. Off-centre steering wheel had been bugging me for a while. Strange how good it feels now it's perfectly aligned - it must have been annoying me way more than I realised!

Hi all,

Long story but I need a new rear door, mine had some filler at somepoint and now its gone bad, will be better to just swap it for a door which has no filler rather than try and fix it.

2 questions:

1) Is the estate B8 rear door the same as the saloon b8 rear door?

2) My car is black, were there any variations of the black colour?

Thanks for any answers smile

Doors are different at the top as the roofline changes.

Colours probably depend on year but there's at least "Brilliant Black" (plain), "Mythos Black" (metallic) and doubtless some others in the 'exclusive' range.

You're welcome. I remember saloon/estate doors on 1960/70's's 'Big Triumphs' being different for the same reason, and a quick peek at the brochure confirmed it smile

Mine's 'Phantom Black' so there are 3 variations at least.

Anyone had their sports diff leak? I've heard that it can be the seals or the inner cv boots that can be the cause?

Noticed some patches on the drive. A quick look under looks like it coming from the diff area but hard to see clearly without lifting it.

Diff leaks on quattro Audis are pretty common, albeit mainly the earlier era cars - it's as much age related as anything else though. Only way to tell is get it on a lift and clean it all off. If it can't be spotted based on the highest point of leakage then a short run post-clean will usually flag the source. Have had to take that approach a couple of times to identify which seal was leaking around the gearbox.

Just had it down at my local VAG specialist and they reckon there's some play on the bearing for the driveshaft which has probably caused it to leak. Only problem is, Audi don't list any replacement parts only full replacement of the diff which was coming in at circa £6k! I'm sure I read somewhere that they recommended replacing seals in some instances?

They're going to check the oil level and top it up for me for now until I can figure out where to go next with it. Anyone happen to know any part numbers? Save me having to get someone to strip it down to check and see if I can actually get hold of them from Audi.
