Well I've got it! Picked it up yesterday from Redline - beautifully made, looks great, goes like stink... but the gearbox - hmm, going to take some getting used to. Just feels like I am sitting there getting from A to B rather than actually driving it - this is my first auto so it might take me a while. Do you guys use the paddles or just leave it in D or S ?PS - just to give you a laugh at my expense - not long after picking it up I came to a roundabout with dual carriageway after. Stuck it in S and nailed it - got to 60 odd in 2nd - brain said time for third, so go for the 'clutch' - slammed my left foot on the brake and pulled an emergency stop! Thank fk there was nobody behind me!

Took me at least a month to like the DSG. Play around with it, it gets much better when you feel you are calling the shots/via paddle or stick, not some bloke in Germany.
Remember, even when in auto, you can override and take control into M via paddle or stick. It's how I generally drive... leaving it in auto, but overriding as soon as I feel I need control.
...apart from when I'm on a mission, when auto doesn't get a look in.

I think we all did that! Left foot under right for a week will sort.

Cheers Steve - that's reassuring as I'm not convinced at the moment and Mrs DD will kill me if I announce I don't like the car after the endless buggering about before I bought it Took me at least a month to like the DSG. Had a go with the paddles today - starting to get into it
Does it make a difference if you're on 'D' or 'S' before going for the paddles or is 'M' the same either way ?
TIA
It took me a week or two to get used to it fully after driving manuals all my life. Just watch the accidental change down into first instead of second on mini roundabouts & then touching the accelerator, you'll know after you've done it once, your kidneys will have gone to visit your spleen Does it make a difference if you're on 'D' or 'S' before going for the paddles or is 'M' the same either way ?
TIA
best in Dynamic or S, it changes the diff, gearbox, suspension, steering and cabin engine noise to sportier settings (if you have those options).

Pretty sure it's the same either way; S and D are just the different auto modes for the transmission, controlling the shift points, so M over-rides them.
ADS dynamic/comfort modes have more effect, controlling the throttle response.
I stand ready to be corrected, though.
Ta - don't think I have 'ADS dynamic/comfort modes' though, optional extra ? ADS dynamic/comfort modes have more effect, controlling the throttle response.
I stand ready to be corrected, though.

You've got the MMI; what do you get the choice of when you press the 'car' button?
I've got Vehicle Settings, Driver Assist, AC and Servicing & Checks - so no ADC for me. Probably just as well as it would be one more thing for me to get confused about Oh and the mpg seems about 5-10% worse than my old manual!
