Only worry I would have is with the state of the gearbox.

Yep, if it's an auto check that it's had the required fluid changes (2 by this mileage)and that it behaves as intended.

You'll struggle to get a warranty on it at that mileage, so there's always the lurking threat of expensive bork.

Plenty around that've done high miles, but worth knowing that there's really nobody repairing the s-tronic boxes in the UK and aside from the electronic side, anything mechanical will result in a high 4 figure bill for a box change

I've just renewed the Audi warranty on my 72k miler last week (although I had my gearbox replaced under warranty 12 months ago). Appreciate 90k is a fair few more miles.

Glad to know there's a market for the high mileage cars as I'll be looking to offload mine next year.

Audi will cover up to 100k miles at the time of taking the warranty out, but my suspicion would be that a quote for a warranty anywhere near that mileage, unless it's an extension to an existing policy will prove uneconomic. They also only cover cars with a full main dealer history so any servicing outside the dealer network and they won't be interested. Just had an air-con and brake fluid change on our just over 3 year old S5 and it had to go to the main dealer rather than an indy, otherwise they'd invalidate any claim for repairs to anything touched that 'might' relate to the work outside of the dealer.....then billed me double their quote, but that's another story

Do you mind sharing how much that cost? I am interested to know. There is usually a pricing tier at 60K miles.

In my 5th year of ownership Ive trimmed the cover back this time.

Named component, 15,000 miles and no Roadside (have an under used AA membership...unusual for a TVR owner hehe ) and £250 excess for £490. Decided Id take on the smaller ones and leave the warranty for the potential kick in the gonads.

Interesting numbers - for comparison our sub-30k miles 2011 Sportback is covered for named component and maximum excess, for much the same reasons, and the cost is £335.

If I was looking at higher mileage newer Stronic cars at the end of their warranty, I would just buy a used manual box/parts and have them retro fitted.

90% has got to be bolt in???

I really wish thy had kept a proper manual option in these cars. My 14plate ticks all the other boxes I had, except that.

And flappy paddles is not the same.

Yep, ridiculous that you pretty much can't get an S/RS in manual these days. Really restricted my used search, as I only wanted a manual (got one in the end).

don't assume the manuals are any more reliable...

Our S5 one coped out at <25K miles (warranted job)

Thanks guys. Those prices seem very reasonable (low actually).

Anyone knw approx how much the main dealers are charging for a warranty renewal? I just picked up mu 2009 car from the dealer last week and would be interested to find out the average cost once its years warranty has lapsed.
Cheers

AudiSRS had a dyno day at Surrey Rolling Road the weekend before last so I ran my B8 S4 (s-tronic).

Not bad for a factory standard car eh?!

When you consider the Audi quoted figure is 333PS and 371.5hp = 376.66PS that's a healthy dose of modesty from Audi. Also looks like I have a strong and healthy one.

I like the power and torque plots. Visualises exactly how they drive.

Most other results were either where expected or a little down, so this really stood out. Also the second time the car has done it's party trick of running more power than a B7 RS4 same day same dyno.

Thats an impressive stock figure!
Does that mean I can have some 'fun' with the B7 RS4's without being embarrased then?
I'm still in the honeymoon period having only picked her up last week (the car that is!) but so far I'm very impressed with the grunt of this stealthy looking car.

That depends on which B7 RS4 you pick on! A healthy (as in technically not faulty) but standard car that has never had a carbon clean is not going to be dissimilar on the power front. There are plenty out there not as healthy as that, then there are the carbon cleaned and tuned cars that manage to produce 400+.

See the vid for the results from the dyno day:

Just go here and put your car details in smile

Although if it's got an Audi warranty it may not allow you to get an online quote yet....

Figures above are ballpark and there's only 2 levels of cover and 3 levels of excess to choose from

Won't work if already under an Audi warranty.

Is it possible to JUST get cover for the gearbox (S-Tronic) or am I just being paranoid? (Isn't it £4k+ if it dies)

No, but named component the lowest level of cover out of the Audi renewal options will cover the gearbox.

Just for added info, named component basically excludes anything to do with the infotainment and window regulators - everything else is pretty much included that you'd be worried about.

We took the view that IF anything fell off after 3 years we would either be looking to Audi for goodwill if it was something that really shouldn't break in x years/miles or that a big ticket item would be covered by the warranty and we'd live with spending the £250 excess rather than being faced with a £6k bill for a gearbox replacement.

Hopefully as the boxes become more commonplace in sheer volume terms companies will start to offer diagnosis and repair options that'll be more affordable to future owners.

Do the superchargers need any overhaul at high mileages?

I remember the superchargers on the old Corrado G60 needing periodic maintainance at high mileage.
