None that I've heard of - they're a pretty solid lump smile there's weight that could be lost from it, that's for sure!

Do the superchargers need any overhaul at high mileages?

I remember the superchargers on the old Corrado G60 needing periodic maintainance at high mileage.
they were twinscroll chargers, after time they would suffer leakage.

The TVS's done have any issues like that (no contact between the rotors or the housing).

Not sure if Audi have it in their schedules, but Eaton usually suggest an oil change at 60K miles or so.

That's interesting - do they have their own oil supply then? Not really looked into it from a service point of view, just assumed any cooling was done via existing oil/water supply

From the eaton website:

Q: How often do I need to change the oil in my supercharger?
A: The sealed oil reservoir in a supercharger is designed to last the life of the vehicle. Changing the oil is not recommended unless you suspect contamination, leakage, or other issues like bearing failure. Also, if your vehicle has an abnormally heavy duty cycle, such as racing or towing, you could consider changing the oil at regular intervals such as 20k, 30k, 50k, or 100k miles depending on usage.

Oil fill of 155ml.

A different car admittedly, but the same engine in my A6 has recently clicked over 130k and everything is still running as it should.

Is it exactly the same, or broadly the same engine? If it's exactly the same, it might be the answer to my 'what car next' dilemma. Can it be remapped in the same way? I see on Autotrader it's listed at 290bhp as opposed to 333bhp for the S4.

They remap to the same power you would get from a stage 1 S4 from what I have read. A tuned A6 3.0 TFSI would certainly make a quick and stealthy choice.

As I understand it - and I'm no expert - they are the same, just with a different map. The older C6 (like mine) also came with the Tiptronic box, rather than the S Tronic.

Availability of remaps seems to match the S4/S5.

Unfortunately it's no longer an option on the A6 in this country.

So they recommend both not changing the oil and also changing it!

I guess it's a bit like the gearbox oil change recommendations.

For the superchargers fitted to Volvo Penta marine engines I think they recommend changing oil every 2 or 3 services.

155ml of oil is very small and precise fill.

One suspects the need for a syringe to ensure correct fill!

Not that precise; it also said 5.2 Fluid Ounces, which is 153ml...so there's some leeway wink

Hi All,

Going on one of my "car buying missions" tomorrow...(usually do one every year or so)...

Get up at 3-4am, leave from Plymouth, meet someone in another country (Cardiff), sell my car (boring A4 TDI), jump on a train back to blighty, change at Nottingham, get picked up by the dealers, to take ownership of this.....

Thoughts???

WHITE, Upgrades - Silk nappa leather + S4 super sports seats, Wide Screen Satellite Navigation Media Pack, Panoramic glass sunroof, 19" 5 parallel spoke design alloy wheels, Drive select with Dynamic steering and Damper control, Quattro sports differential, Heated front seats with individual controls and variable temperature adjustment, Sound pack - A4, Black styling pack - A4 Avant, Ski-bag + through load, Audi music interface, Privacy glass, Audi parking system plus, Carbon atlas inlays, Full dealership history, Standard Features - Xenon headlights, Mobile telephone preparation - bluetooth interface, Cruise control, Acoustic parking system - rear, Electric front windows, Electric rear windows, Concert radio/single CD player with MP3 facility, 3 zone climate control, Electric front seats with height/backrest/fore/aft adjust + lumbar support, Electronic Stability Programme, Traction control, Front sports seats, Roof rails, Thatcham category 1 alarm+immobiliser, Multi function steering wheel, Electric heated door mirrors, Headlight washer jets, Interior light pack

It's done 60k miles but looks in really good nick.

Not going to be able to sleep tonight!!!

Cheers,

Whats the fastest way of confirming it has the spec advertised? Via the MMI?

For the ADS stuff, go into the MMI and under car look at the personalisation settings you can pick - it should have engine/gearbox and usually steering by default, plus damper control and diff if fitted.

What year is it? Presume it's a pre-facelift if it's done 60k miles? If you find a SIM card slot behind the flap where the SD cards go then you've got phone prep high, but don't get too excited! If it has tech pack high you should have HDD nav. Should be a little mini joystick on top of the MMI wheel. If you don't think it has, or there's no SD card slots, check the boot flaps for a DVD drive for the nav, in which case it's tech pack low. Maps will probably be original, but if you post the part number quoted on the MMI screen when you get it home someone can confirm the age of the map (nothing obvious like the year is shown!)

Super Sports seats are 'tombstone' style so no head restraint adjustment. If you're lucky and it has memory seats, you will also have auto folding mirrors to play with under central locking, plus dimming mirrors all round (not much of an issue with pimp tints if not fitted)

I love those 19" wheels - my favourite on this car smile

Oh yeah and check it had a gearbox oil change by 40k miles - if it's s-tronic - and walk away if it hasn't been done
