Blimey, mines a real low mileage model. 2001 A6 Avant 1.9TDI, only about 110k on the clock Barely even run in.

The longevity of these engines has to be a selling point. Routine servicing cost a few £££ (even at the local indie), but its worth it to keep it running sweet.

How much do you think yours is worth now? Am looking for a good car for the Mrs - not too much ££ either.

99 Passat 1.9 tdi, 236,000 on original clutch, exhaust, turbo. Bit soggy in the handling dept, but it's mostly used on motorways so handling isn't so important.

03 Polo 1.9 Tdi Sport, with a mere 113,500 on the clock. For sale if anyone fancies it.

The 90 Imsa, weapon and a half.

Faults? Not really, its done 195k and is 16 years old so might need the origianl clutch or turbo replacing soon, original headlights are awful, original boost hoses starting to perish, but the mileage and age i think are admirable for this to happen. Wear and tear items really, but the Audi NLA makes parts expensive/ impossible to find.

I had a customer yesterday looking to part-exchange a 2.5 A6 Avant, it had clocked 182k. The engine was sweet as a nut.

200k on a 12 year old Passat 110 tdi.

Still smoke free, the only engine associated problem i've had was the all too common failed MAF, £20 for a bit from a breakers sorted that :-)

Apart from replacement of various front suspension bits and one problem with the drivers door central locking, the car has been trouble free over the 9 years ive owned it.

Looking forward to another 100k at least....

A4 53 plate 1.9 tdi sport 130bhp 149k still original clutch, changed original discs last year at 138k remapped since 80k no problems at all. I'm lazy not really kept up with the servicing schedule in fact at one point it did 80k / 120k without the bonnet really been open so been pretty neglected really. It actually felt worse after service haha apart from that serviced every 20-25k ish and it just keeps going. Been offered £1300 part ex so for that money I'll keep it as a millage project.
Owened the car since 35k and 3 year old.
What a car it's been!!!!

I had an Octavia Slx Tdi estate (1999) sold in 2009 with 180000m. Original exhaust, speedo had failed as had a door lock. Car had been well used including going through some forest rally stages after time keeping at rallies.
Similarly my J reg 92 1.8cl petrol 12yrs old and 180000 when sold for £600. A bit of rust under the passenger footwell but not much else wrong.
I think this was one of the first Octy estates. Like most VAG cars of that and previous eras were built to last. Not so sure about those built today.
A mate has a 90 Avant tdi 280000m M reg used as a van. Suffers terrible abuse but refuses to die.

Not mentioning the 1985 Polo Coupe S which was not sporty at all and pretty unreliable and handles poorly. Not kept more than 2yrs but took me all round UK for work on farms when leaving college and into France too.

My recently purchased 11-plate Golf 2.0 TDI has done a casual 93k miles hehe

Its evidently spent most of its life going up and down the motorway. Apart from the obligatory stone chips on the front and steering wheel wear its actually in pretty good condition and the drive is spot on.

Ive have had two 1.9Tdi's, a Seat Cordoba estate, and a Passat B5 estate. Both cars had the older 110bhp AFN lump.

The Cordoba estate was on 287k miles when i got rid. It was still going strong, even did 15k miles in it after i had turned the fuel pressure up to get a bit more power from it.

The Passat was on 224k miles. Also did the same with the fueling on this car. Drove it 2000miles in a week to the South of France and back.

Both cars were bulletproof, never had any problems with the engines at all. Never bothered even servicing them either. Although the Passat did get an oil change after i smashed the sump on the floor an cracked it (the car was lowered on coilovers, and was half inch off the floor).

My W reg 115hp Tdi Golf had a small end bearing fail at 163k miles - 30k miles after I bought the car.
Car serviced on purchase and every 9-10k miles there after by my local indie.
Bought a replacement engine out of a crashed 59k miler 2002 Jetta for £450.00 and replaced the broken engine.
Now 202k miles.

We did buy a 2.5TDI V6 Diesel A4 a few years back with 70k on it. Ran without fault for 50k miles and we sold it with 120k on. The only thing I had to do to it was replace the armrest lid as the catch broke.

Unfortunately, we replaced it with a 530d that turned out to be the worst (car) mistake of our lives, but that's another story.

Interesting that most of the high milers being mentioned are older type engines.

Genuinely not sure of the longevity of the latest engines. I've a 2012 1.6 TDI which i got last year with 13K miles.

So far in a year and 25K miles its needed a new water pump fitted (plus timing belt) and in September a full engine wiring loom. God knows what that lot would have cost if i'd been paying.

You then hear of EGR valve problems on the 1.6TDI (apparently a big job to get at) and quite fresh cars needing DMF's, DPFs, turbos, pumps, injectors, etc.

Not sure i'd be wanting to run a modern VAG to big miles out of warranty....
