The tyre pressures are fine , but the light is on and won't reset. The car is booked in for a service & first MOT next month. Am I OK to leave it until then? I had two new fron tyres fitted last week, but had done 100 miles before the light came on yesterday afternoon.

2007 Golf Gti Edition 30, btw.

Consult the handbook and see if it says it's indicating something other than tyre pressure. If not, and you can't feel/see/hear any faults, you should be ok. Could just be a dodgy connection in the sensor

Press and hold the Set button until the light goes out. The light has come on because the rolling radius of the wheels have changed with the new tyres. Hope that helps.

I've tried pressing and holding the set button, but the light comes on again as soon as I release the button

It's indicating a fault then. It could actually be a fault you haven't picked on. Like a small nail in the tyre, give them a thorough looking over.

If that was the case, the car would need to be moving before the light came back on.

If the light comes back on as soon as you reset it, it sounds like a fault with the system.

Ok I just sat in a friends GTI and he has a similar problem. I held the button and initially the light goes out and comes back on, what you're experiencing? That's normal and you hold it until you hear a bong and it should go out.

I'll try that tomorrow. How long do you need to hold it down before you hear the bong?
Do you need the engine running?

I don't think the engine needs to be on, but just turn it on incase. I'd say around 4 seconds but just hold it until you hear the bong. Let us know how you get on.

No worries mate. It usually comes on in snow because the wheels keep spinning at different speeds making the car think a tyres flat.

Holy thread revival.

Have you tried googling your problem, wheel speed sensor?

To reset the system you need to be at a constant speed of approx 30MPH on a road without significant camber. You keep the speed steady, hold the button in and wait for the beep.

The car does not need to be moving for the system to reset. It can be done at standstill with just the ignition switched on. Sounds as though you have a fault.
