Anyone ordered the satnav upgrade for Golf and Scirocco? looking at latter for next car and wondering whether its worth the money or just get a cheap tomtom for the glove box? Also, how does the MDI with an ipod work in real life? Doesnt look as easy to use as the Audi MMI or BMW idrive but still looks better than most

the sat nav isn't too bad in the vw's however its only a 4 digit postcode system so not the best, a friend has got pretty lost with his twice albeit in the general area of where he needed to be, although that may just be him wink personally I don't think its worth the £1295 extra to upgrade but thats personal choice

the mdi ipod connection is pretty good, its sometimes a bit of a faff navigating & finding the artist/album/song that you want but it depends how you listen to your music, its certainly not a good idea to try navigating through it lots while on the move. the other small downside is a few people have found that the radio screen doesn't update the song particularly quickly when playing from the ipod.
being in the armrest the mdi connection & ipod/usb is hidden so all good security wise, you get a lead for the mdi socket to a usb connector as well so you can use a usb key or hard drive with music on which works well & you can organise as you like. sadly I haven't used MMI or iDrive so can't compare

Any scirocco specific questions just shout smile

The RNS510 can be retrofitted very easily by yourself. It costs £500-£600 off ebay.
