Got round to finishing the electric cutouts over the weekend (thanks to Stig for the link to his Mustang install).. and I have to say.. they sound incredible – video below

At the moment it’s got a custom powerflow ss catback that I’m quite happy with, so didn’t want to spend a crazy amount on Wortecs (good as I hear they are) and having just got rid of my 87 Camaro I wanted something to make the Ro sound similar when the mood takes. Also has Walkinshaw remap and custom airbox mod with K&N. Other than that, it's stock.

Had a local exhaust place weld the Y Pipes in then got my brother (an electrician) to help me wire them in on Sunday. At the moment, the turndowns from the cutouts are both facing in, as it was the only way they’d bolt in with the motors at that angle, but I’m going to get some adjustable ones and swap them over in the next few weeks so they’re pointing outwards rather than in.

After getting the motors and turndowns bolted in , the next job was to get the cables up into the car. With a bit of trial and error the centre console all came off (1 screw!) and we tried to work out the best place to bring the cables up. Rather than drilling a hole through the floor plan, I decided to make a small slit in the thick rubber gear shift gater, right at the front where there’s no movement in it. Obviously it’s right in above the trans and in a perfect place, and doesn’t involve dangerous (for me!) drilling of holes.

We made sure the cable were all secure and safe going round each side of the gearbox (whre there’s already a few handle cable holders) siliconed and sealed up around the wires going through the rubber shift gater and ran them back through the centre console under the electric windows buttons etc and under the cubby hole.

Wired the switch into the cubby hole for ultimate stealth mode and took the power from the back of the power outlet so it was nice and easy and keeps everything close together.

And finally.. with everything put back together and about 4 hours work it’s all up and running. Vid shows engine start up and idle with cutouts closed, then the same with them open fully. Turn the sound up for maximum pleasure

Last few pictures are during and after the paint refresher and spoiler repair (bare in mind this was in 3 pieces after my wifes little mishap so I was mega impressed what my mate danny (pictured buffing) managed to do! Looks like new now. He also did both sides of the car and back end to make sure we got a good match. Looks like it’s straight out the factory now.

He’s keen to take on a few extra bits of work here and there, so anyone in the north who wants any paint, chips, dents, repairs etc doing – get in touch and I’ll forward his number.

Time for some fun now..

Is this purely for sound. Surely running on these make it loud in the car due to resonation...

Any chance of a drive by video, one closed and one open, pulling away will probably be better though giving it some stick.

I have been fitting mine over the weekend in between the down pours of rain, I went for the placing of the cutouts at the rear to try and minimise the noise in the car, not sure it has tho LOL it's fking loud!!! biggrin

I am making up a couple of pipes to come off the cutouts to point the sound to the side of the car, they will be about 18 inches long and think they will make the cutouts sound better, will do a vid when I get the on.

I decided to go for the clamping rather than welding, and it makes it more adjustable and if I decide to sell them they are easier to remove and fit.

It is really just for sound.. Someone more technically minded can probably say for sure, but I'd guess it gives a few more bhp. Mainly though, it's just for special occasions or when you want to frighten local children

The cutout system is from Badlandz - here's a link to their ebay shop:

http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ba

With the exchange rate and shipping I think it worked out about between £250 and £300. I'll try and get a drive by video sorted this week

Let me know how you get on with adding the extensions onto these mate.. would be v interested in doing that myself if it works out well. Very loud though aren't they!!!!

They should be perfectly safe mate - both me and Snowwolf have fitted them after the cats and the 02 sensors, so as far as the car and the ECU knows (from what I gather), it doesn't really care what happens after that. Doesn't need to compensate or change any settings.. runs as normal - just with a bit less restriction and a lot more noise. As for backpressure, I'm not mechanically minded enough to say, but from what I have heard it shouldn't really make any difference.. maybe someone like monkfish1 could clarify.

I wouldn't want to run them open all the time, but for the occasional bit of fun they're pretty awesome. Depending on how long you hold the switch down you can have them fully open or just a bit, so I've been experimenting with just having them a bit open today to get a little bit of rumble without it being full-on drag strip levels.

Fantastic AndiD. You mentioned that you were changing the short exit pipes from the valves, I would be interested in the ones you have at present. Please give a price for them and we will go from there.

Have funbounce

Wont cause any damage and wont need a tune, unless you want to retune for the more open exhaust.
Might be good for trackdays. Now you just need a chunky cam to make it romp a bit more..
