An S4 with a large suction device under the bonnet? Not a bad idea that...

I have had a problem with mine using alot of oil(2005 4.2 S4). It was smoking from cold start so put it down to valve stem oil seals. Whilst the engine was apart we replaced the VSOS and every thing else looked perfect, even compression was exactly the same on every single cylinder. As a precaution we also had the PCV valve replaced which controls pressure in the crank case? It doesn't smoke an ounce now meaning we fixed the problem and runs perfectly still, but does seem to use alot of oil still. From reading the other posts it seems it might just be the way it is? But if you have any cleaver ides It would be much appreciated!

Cheeers,

Mine doesn't. Haven't ever had to top it up between services.

Hate to quote myself, but:-

VAG suggest 1L of oil per 1,000 kilometres is acceptable use.
^^ If you're getting more than ~621 miles/1,000km per litre, Audi will tell you it's a characteristic, not a fault. wink

Mine uses about 1.5 litres per 1000km would you still say this was just a characteristic?

Mine hasn't used a drop of oil in the 8000 miles since the last service, so your percentage may need revising DrG! Glad to hear that others don't use up oil either - I was starting to worry that mine weren't working proper or that I weren't using it proper...
