ive spoken to powdercoaters, they've suggested they do a trial, but if you know a product that works, perhaps i can make sure they use that......

Hi SSPPGG, what part of the country are you? I could recommend a couple of powdercoaters that would do a cracking job. Regards, Pete

P.S. If you have already had the chassis hot zinc sprayed, do keep it dry and free of moisture! Not that it will rust but, if allowed to get wet there is the likelyhood of zinc salt deposits forming which will have to be removed before coating.Pete

Hi there, unfortunately you are a long way from any of my powdercoaters. As long as they apply a pre coat (typically an etch to bond to the zinc) then the powder coat it should be fine. Let us know how you get on. Pete

nope, had the chassis, all wishbones and every other bit I could find blasted and zinc coated at applied surface treatments in wolverhampton - good job, at 200 all in. Was worth the extra for molten zinc spray

the chassis is now with redditch shotblast and powdercoat to do the powdercoat work.

a good day in the garage today

got all 4 corners on today. fitted front brake lines, fitted the diff rear mount i made for the btr, and made up the front diff mounts.

had to make these as the precat didn't have the btr diff fitted, so nothing off the shelf available

Very interested in what you're doing, how you're going about it and where you live. I live in Henley in Arden and, having previously owned a '93 pre-cat in the 90's, aquired (a few months ago)a '96 500 and am in the process of upgrading the suspension, brakes etc. It is a low mileage example and the chassis, I'm happy to say, is in very good shape. However, the front wishbones were showing signs of wear and tear and, wanting to go down a similar route as you, was scratching my head as to where to take them for treatment. I now have some useful answers! Thank you! It would be good to get together at some point. David.

Are you sure you can get the body on over the front ARB and get on the front chassis bolts?

Spent part of the weekend refurbishing the rear brakes, new pins, seals etc.

took a while to work out how the ford handbrake mechanism worked in the calipers, but OK in the end.

Also split the gearbox, modified the shifter rails and fitted the new mid shift to the t56. the old shifter comes up almost 14 inches further back, behind the handbrake lever

i will need to make an offset lever, to get the 2 inches back, and an inch to the right, but i think (after loads of measuring), it'll all fit under a 500 whaletail, that has a raised portion for a t5 shifter remote assembly, though not sure about the 400 whaletail which doesnt.

If that fails, then i have a very short GM remote linkage, which will put the shifter back 3 inches, but i want to avoid using a remote if possible

another good weekend tinkering

spent sat at the engine builders, new cam, springs, head gaskets, bit of porting work, replaced a broken valve guide,

refitted engine and headers when i got home sat afternoon, and checked that the loom i ordered had all the correct plugs and connectors for my engine variant

fitted remote bleed line to the t56, and a new braided hose, borrowed a prop fitting from Dave Mac to make sure the prop i ordered was correct as the t56 has a few variants in output splines.

Looking really good and can I just say what a great pace you have worked at, you'll have her back on the road in no time.
Am I the only one to notice that your garage looks like a kitchen and are those french doors at the back?
I bet the missus has her eye on that space for that extra large livingroom she's been after!

plan is back on road for late spring, as im going to griff growl, le mans classic, and silverstone classic. dont plan to do anything interior/wheels/paint/trim wise this year though..

the garage is a recent extension, and I ended up with the old kitchen, complete with sink/microwave/kettle/fridge! (you missed the church organ on pic2...that wont fit up the stairs into the kids music room thats above the garage

its a bit of a mess, but once i'm finished, itll be nice.

The 8ft patio at the back overlooks the garden, and was cheaper than putting in wooden doors

i also put in a sectional insulated door at the front, which again was pretty cheap.

I do feel pretty lucky with the garage set up.

It has cost though, i've got 40m of slate floor to lay in the kitchen sometime soon, as well as the whole house to decorate.
