Thus, however well the panel was made it will struggle to work properly? Answering both of the above questions. Pete, I wouldn't bother going to the expense and trouble, I did exactly that with S&D and after 3 years of development they have stopped doing them for a number of reasons. The first being they couldn't make money at a price people would pay because as DA has pointed out no two TVRs have the same apperture and even with a mould made from the roof I supplied they had to spend ages making the panel(s) fit each particular car. Some are almost the same but each one has a slightly different profile. As a one off, done to a panel that already fits your car it's 'doable' as several on here will testify but it's not economical to produce them for customers on a regular basis. ETA S&D already have a mould for a full panel so it might be worth contacting them for a quote. I really must stress though having already gone through the whole process already the roof panel is not as simple as you think, it's hollow with two skins and each one differs as does the car. My recommendation is no matter how expensive you think a 2nd hand one or a new one from S&D is it WILL be considerably cheaper in both cash, time and effort than attempting to make your own. (and make a decent job)

I have to say I understand the lumps and bumps / Matching colour issue..  ,but if its p  g down and your driving, you wont be looking at it... any other time, it will be off and in the boot???

You haven't seen very many then. I know a lot of people who have bought a Surrey Roof and they are all extremely pleased with theirs. Didn't you spend a lot of time on a split roof solution? That wouldn't have anything to do with your negative comments would it? I have the Surrey roof and I am very pleased with it. I do however agree with V8GRF's comments in that the fabric does not match and it doesn't fit as well as the original. I would also add to the list of draw backs that the two bars limit headroom in the car. Yes it is pricey but you do need to consider that these are bespoke products for a limited market and sold in relatively small numbers. Because my car is stored outside I keep the original roof on it. When I go out I leave the roof at home and travel with the surrey roof in the boot. Also if I go on holiday in the car I will take just the Surrey Roof which saves increases luggage space and saves on the ball ache of having to empty the boot every time you want to put the roof up or down. I would happily recommend this roof as an addition to the original roof. I went for the Surrey is because at the time the S&D roof was much more expensive in the spec I wanted (leather trimmed on the inside plus separate roof panel bags). Even if I had the S&D split roof I would probably still use the Surrey for touring. Matthew

I agree they do a good job and are well engineered in some ways but imo the finish of the fibreglass parts leave a lot to be desired and the fit around the edges is poor. Although as it was based on a Chimaera roof panel it may well be it fits your car better. Yes I was involved in the S&D split roof and as pointed out it's no longer offered and I didn't benefit financially from it in any way. It was a rather expensive way of getting one for my own use.

After researching all the forums I bought a second hand one from a scrapyard (didn't have the bottle to cut my original one in half!) then cut it in two with a circular saw following a chalk line drawn down the centre. Bought some new fabric, 2 stainless steel over centre catches (V7 20-101-24 Southco Draw Latches from boat chandlers EC Smith) and it fits really well. I didn't bother with any rubber seal in the middle and in torrential rain recently had 2 drips on the console. It so much easier to lift and store I'm surprised everyone hasn't done it yet!

I have a Surrey roof and I'm very pleased with it. It has no lumps or bumps, and its proven to be 100% waterproof. I am currently touring Italy,( and later on more extensive parts of Europe), hence for me, its a 'good buy'. I wouldn't be without it. It gets used at night and when its raining. Rest of the time it lives in the boot, on top of my wifes luggage. You pays your money, and you takes your choice.

( do you also remember getting soaked that weekend? I remember I was in the griff, and I didnt!).

but no need for me now! roof needed a new cover so I thought what the hell, took 20 mins, will add dowels, clips etc when resin infill in the front and rear parts is dry

Follow the DIY roof split thread to 'my 1 hour roof split ''literally'' I followed Chris52's instructions and as the pics show it all worked out very nicely. I filled the gap in the roof layers with fibreglass resin in a couple of goes. Two years on and I'm very happy that I took a brave pill and put saw to roof!! That was the hardest bit. There is so much more room in the boot now. I had a Leven roof bag that I could not fit in the boot on the roof because space was that tight - so I cut that in half too and it works perfectly! Just take your time - you will be glad you did.

One half will however sit on top of a full boot if you tuck the front edge under the lip and use the curve bit to follow the lid shape ... the other one will tuck around the tank  thats if you use the 'cut it in half' method as we did .. just don't add too much to it in lips / catches etc.. or if you do, just add them on one half...
