Hi all, has anyone any idea what make/car the electric mirror switch and joystick are/or from please? Think mine is faulty on the 4.3 so would like to source another (other than the very pricy TVR outlets). Many thanks, Pete

Pete are you sure its not wiring or bad connection , mine played up and it was the connections under the dash by the steering ,, clean connections and ensure wiring going through to door hasnt broken,,,alex

I think the joystick is from a Rover SD1.
The door mirror relay is worth checking if your mirrors don't respond.
I've had problems a couple of times with relay internal corrosion, as on my model the relay is inside the drivers door.

Thanks guys, I will check the wiring connections under the dash. Though now thinking it could be the relay! The symptoms are that with the switch in the RH mirror position no matter what position you operate the joystick the mirror will only go left and right. When set in the LH mirror position LH mirror only goes up and down? Strange one. Wanted to sound people out before stripping out the door and switches etc. Any further thoughts?

Pete,, just checked the bible and found on the 4.0 and 4.3 griffs the mirror control box is in the door , because of water ingress they decided on the 5.0 to move the box next to steering collumn. Looks like a door card off ,, good luck removing it, need small arm to reach nuts at back off door,, alex

Cheers Alex, will try and get the door card off over the bank holiday weekend. Pete

Pete, any news? What was the cause of your problem? Have nearly the same issue in my 430 and i'm sure it's caused by faulty switch.
Cheers
Axel

Hi Axel, no resolution yet! Had a look again on Saturday but did not have the patience at the time to take the door card off. I am convinced its the large changeover switch, as it looks really dilapedated and loose in operation. I would like to change it, just to eliminate it, but cannot identify where the switch originated from! Have you any ideas? Pete

Hi Alex, thanks for the info above. Unfortunately not the same switch! Min has a separate toggle (like the one on Range Rover) but the changeover switch is a lot larger and has about 8 spade terminals! I have tried the Vauxhall variants to no success, even Citroen (whose mirrors they are) do not have the same switches. So stil looking. Regards, Pete

Sounds to me like the relay, can you hear it click as you change from L-R to ^-V movements? Could still be that the joystick has been wired incorrectly so as not to activate the relay etc..

Some details of 430 stuff here:
http://tvr.dspen.co.uk/Corrado-Mirror/CorradoMirro...
albeit about upgrade to later mirrors.

Cheers Spend very helpful. I don't think there is a relay, believe the large changeover switch changes the function from left to right! Anyway here is a pic of the offending item:

Just to recap the fault: In R/H operation right mirror only goes left and right no up down, L/H operation left mirror only goes up and down (both of those operations irrespective of joystick position)

All the best, Pete

You will have a relay...

The 'changeover switch' directs operation to the left or right mirror

The relay is imperative to switch the common wire +/- depending on what the other wire to each motor is being sent. If you look at my diag the citroen mirror just has 2 motors the first connected to BR & RU wires, the second to RU & ltG wires. One motor works up - down which is controlled by sending +&-'ve or -&+'ve down the wires, the second works left and right in the same way. The joystick manages the swapping of polarity on the BR & ltG wires, but relies on the relay to switch the polarity on the RU wire.

The relay is very tricky to get at on the 430 wink but I would say with 95% certainty that it is your problem.

Cheers Spend I shall look for the relay. Will it be in the door or elsewhere? Pete

In the door, you should find it best following the loom with your fingers. If it is anything like mine was, drill the pop rivet to get out ~ need to be a gynaecologist with x-ray vision to fix it in-situ wink

Its about 60% along the door on the line of the horrible nuts (3-6" behind the rear one) roughly ~ but builds may vary.

Remember it is a changeover relay so not a common make/break or twin make/break....

Unless you know your mirrors worked properly don't assume someone hasn't used wrong parts or plugged connectors back in correctly wink Many folks seem to put their brains up their back pockets when anything electrical crosses their paths.

Hmm my mirrors not worked since I had the car 9 years ago... will have a look at relays... but I have been told power is getting to the motors (thats if you believe the garages who have been unable to fix the issue (3 to date))

My mirror will move left and right but not up and down. Even after cleaning the minor corrosion on the terminals, it still doesn't work so I thought that I would replace the relay.

I haven't managed to find a website that sells a replacement mirror relay, does anybody know where I can get one from?

Cheers
