crankshaft pulley wobble
Discussion
Right the pulley actually moves so should it? Feels like there is some play and I guess it moves 2mm when I move it side to side. Also there are only 3 bolts in it but 6 holes - is this correct?
It looks like this BTW:

Should I change the pulley or will I need to get it all balanced or just change the pulley bolt? Yes, I know the bolt needs be done by a specialist who has a ramp and can apply the appropriate force.
I put a picture on my earlier post which may clarify things.
David Gerald is about 2 miles away.

Take the bolt out and just slide the pulley damper off and check it all out. Thinking back you may have to unbolt the pulley damper assembly whilst its still on the engine as clearance to chassis is a problem taking it off. The rubber on the damper seems short lived on our cars which may be where your play is coming from. Its easy enough to torque the new crank bolt up, nothing special needed. Problem is with a new damper the whole bottom end will probably need re balancing as these engines were not internally balanced so you cannot use a zero balanced pulley.

Pretty much what Carsy said, pull it off check it all out, maybe ARP make a crank bolt if it worries you, it worried me after I saw Barry's and got arp on my engine now
Alex,Where would I get the ARP bolt from and is it a direct replacement? Do I need any washers or any other kit with it?

Check the female thread in the crank is clean and that there is no debris stopping the bolt screwing in as far as it needs to tighten the pulley on fully.
Also, if the pulley is moving but the bolt is apparently tight, you may have excess end float I nthe crank shaft. If this si the case it may be that the crank thrust bearings are excessively worn allowing the crank to move laterally?

Oh that's unusual then Presumption ... the mother of all fk up's sorry about that FFG : should be just a pulley and bolt change (if the pulley is worn) and a crank nose and keyway inspection then I'll get it checked out as priority.

Not a problem, we have a 500 too.I did say it was the precat early in the post. it has done 250k miles so things do wear.
