Meta alarm and insurance.
Discussion
Last year Carl baker installed the meta alarm upgrade and life was good.
Recently insured with Flux (I know before you say but they where so much cheaper, half the price of manning who insured me last year). anyway they say its not on there list of thatcham alarms and I should take it to http://www.gapsecurity.co.uk/ and have a new alarm fitted!
Has anyone else had insurance problems with the meta system? or is it just Flux being total .... ....

Utter rubbish!!!
They probably have a brown envelope arrangement with that alarm fitter if they are pushing you towards them, this has sharp practice written all over it.
I'd email Carl Baker, I bet he'll have every certificate necessary on PDF he can email to you so you can give them to your insurer allowing you to tell them "to go do one".
Meta is a huge well respected name in vehicle security, they still to this day work with manufacturers particularly in the Fiat group so you'll find their products on Ferraris & Maseratias we as millions of run of the mill Fiats.
Carl is a decent honest guy that sells & fits quality products, I'm sure he'll support you.
It sounds to me like your insurer is trying to pull a fast one.

Thanks, Yes Carl is a top bloke and I am in no way saying his work is anything other than 110% I would recommend him every time.
Flux like email correspondence and they take 2 days to reply, I have the meta certificate which i have sent them but as I said its not good enough!!! I have emailed them back and told them to look at the document again but thought I would see if anyone has had problems.

My guess it Carl's Meta installations can be found on 20% of all TVRs out there.
And none of those cars ever have issues getting insured.
Honestly I'd say Flux are just profiteering here, not to insure a car because a quality updated Meta alarm has been professorially fitted by a well respected certificated installer that was trained by Meta themselves is complete nonsense.
I bet your alarm system is a thousands times better than what TVR fitted & wired incorrectly, you've improved the security of your car not reduced it.
In fact you should be asking them for a discount on the grounds the car is harder to steal than it was when new.
And when it comes to renewal time, I'd be telling your insurer to Flux Off!!!
Your insurer now wants their money, and they are Fluxing you up the arsh to get it
Very sharp practice, people read these forums and will probably choose not to get Fluxed themselves because of this post.
Try MSM, good honest folk that dont try to trick you.

Good luck with sorting it FlyingGriffith, and thanks for posting

Thanks, no I will hold my ground as I have a thatcham alarm with the paperwork and that's what I told them when I got the quote and took out the insurance.
I stopped using flux a few years ago for other reasons, thought they might have improved. Its a shame manning was so far off the money as I would have stayed with them, nice people who know the cars.
will try msm if it comes to it or next year. although I called them all I think....

I might be getting closer to the problem. my alarm is model HPATI and is thatcham TC3-1476.
Now this is not listed on the thatcham web site - http://www.thatcham.org/files/pdf/compliance.pdf
But there is no mention of TVR either.....
I have emailed Carl and will wait and see what he suggests.

Thanks for that I may well need a copy of that letter, may save me a couple of hundred pounds, although the car I am in the process of buying is an N reg 95 (I believe) one owner car with factory fitted alarm from new. Do you know if they fitted the alarm to some cars prior to 96?.
Regards
Nick

Are you a member of the TVRCC? There is a guy called Daniel from Adrian Flux who posts on the insurance forum there. He hasn't posted for a while but it might be worth trying to speak to him.
Metas were standard fitment by the factory and should be acceptable to them, if they won't accept it I would look elsewhere.

No, not on TVRCC, I have spoken to Carl and he has heard it all before from flux.....
He has sent me the Thatcham type approval certificate and after a 45 min phone call to flux the girl was suitably baffled and seemed happy it's ok, but I have still not had the email confirming this.
For those in the same boat I have found the HPAT 1 on the thatcham web site -
http://www.thatcham.org/files/pdf/compliance.pdf
page 22 about half way down or search for "HPAT"
I have saved a copy for future use and anyone who needs it in years to come in case it goes awol.....
In conclusion Flux are as bad as ever and I will not be giving them money next year or any year after that....

Yes, but how many of those years has your insurance started with a 1? I am in my second year of ownership and manning put my premium up! I had several close to the £150 mark, Flux was the cheapest and the best know of them....
How hard should it be to show you have a cat 1 alarm? and as Carl told me I am not the first and probably wont be the last....
