Battery voltage on medium revs is only making 12.25 and voltmeter alternates between the bottom of the gauge and 12. Plus it wouldn't start after a 20min run.

I measured the voltage at the alternator too so not a fuse or wire. Dash light not on, so I guess its outputting something.

Anyhow, its a pre-serp Griff 500 - does anyone know what part I should order, from where or what its off ?

Is Halfords likely to stock or is there stuff not to be trusted ?

thanks

Make sure you check the 100 amp fuse first. Mine had a hairline crack that was only apparent when I took it out and it fell in half. Only problem for me was I found this out after shelling out and fitting anew alternator.

Its a land Rover item, my replacement was £70 from a LR 4x4 stockist. Make sure you get the correct hand version, they do them swing to the left to right to adjust. They fitted them from the Range Rover through to Defender!, Pete

Take it to an auto electrician for testing before you buy a new one- may be just the regulator and save yourself some cash.

If I remember correctly doesn't the ECUMATE show you voltage.

I've got one if it's any use. Are you coming to Burghley?

Does the charge light come on with the ignition?
Does it then go out when you start the engine?

The charge light must be working or the alt. will not charge. Even a blown bulb will prevent the charge.
