Electric power steering pump...........
Discussion
Ian, I didn't carry on with this install and am still using the hydraulic pump. Problem I found was that on the Griff with its sloping radiator there is little room to mount the pump. The other snag is that the bonnet roller cross-bar limits the vertical space for the pump. I have seen a pic. of a Griff where it was mounted in place of the washer bottle but decided it wasn't for me.
I wouldn't say that it couldn't be done but as yet I'm not sure how.
If you have any brainwaves I would like to see the result........good luck.

Cheers Alex. I have always intended to mount mine off the front cross member and always presumed it would clear the bonnet until i had a proper look this morning and like you say getting it as low as you can the front of the bonnet just catches it. Shame.
Anyway i have decided i am going to place it in the corner of the boot. There is still plenty of room to get the roof in and out. The pipe runs should be dead straight up to the rack. I wondered if the extra length in the pipes may alter the efficiency of the pump but my local hydraulic place and Pirtek have assured me it wont make any difference.

No there`s no chance in front of the rad, i`ve looked there before. I think if sticking with the Astra pump the boot is the only option.
My intention at the minute is to mount the pump in the offside corner. Probably use flexi rubber pipes and run them out the boot through the hole where the fuel return line enters the boot, along the chassis straight to the rack !!!!!
I will keep you posted.

Ian, are you saying that there is less room under the griff bonnet? It fits under the chim bonnet. My intention at the minute is to mount the pump in the offside corner. Well today i finally got around to starting my Subaru power steering mod.
Rack in position.
Having turned the pinion around 180 degree i`ve had to file a bit from the mounting plate. probably looks worse than it is, its only about 2-3cm.
Mr. Hedgehopper if your watching i`m mounting the Astra pump off the front chassis member as originally intended. Ive built a plate in 3mm stainless steel that hooks over the chassis and sits just a few mm off the anti roll bar. It also has a plate behind it that comes off the underneath of the chassis crossmember. Probably over engineered but its proper solid.
I`ve then bolted the original astra pump cradle to the bottom of the stainless plate. Pump then just sits in its original cradle. No pics of this yet its still getting painted.
Mounting the pump like this does means the bonnet just fouls the top of the pump by about half a cm when opening the bonnett. Its hardly a problem though because when the bonnet gets to the pump it is out of its roller channel so you can just lift it that half cm over the pump and carry on opening it as normal. I`m quite happy with it. With bonnet shut there is loads of clearance. i`ll put up some more pics when its all done in place.

Forgot about that on yours. I`ve no expansion tank just the swirl pot.
CarsyTidy, that's a very tidy engine bay, RESPECT !!! I now understand why you don’t want to mess up your perfect engine bay with a PAS pump.
I notice you’ve Tee’d you thermostat bypass hose into the water pump return but where is your heater return pipe???
Thanks, Steve
Easy that one Steve, I don't have a heater.. took the lot out cos it was useless.
I may at some point put an all in one small fan and matrix like the ones sold by car builder solutions in the passenger footwell / wing like you have done just for windscreen demisting but its not top of my list of jobs as the car is summer use only.
