Easy that one Steve, I don't have a heater.. took the lot out cos it was useless.

I may at some point put an all in one small fan and matrix like the ones sold by car builder solutions in the passenger footwell / wing like you have done just for windscreen demisting but its not top of my list of jobs as the car is summer use only.

Interesting thanks, I totally agree you don't need a heater in the summer and I bet your cockpit is a lot cooler in the summer without hot coolant constantly leaking past the hopeless heating valve into the heater matrix.

Does this mean you no longer have the heater bypass H connector and opened up the restriction in the thermostat bypass outlet? Sorry one more question, where have you connected the inlet manifold 5/16" small outlet near the ECU temp sensor that normally goes to the heater return pipe?

I’m very impressed, and can see why, you’ve used the tidier Precat inlet manifold with an intermediate front cover and not a 500 inlet manifold.

I really hope to meet your Griff one day.

Hi Steve, no H connector as i have also removed the heater matrix and associated gubbins.

I`ve plumbed it up like this; The pipe that comes out of the manifold ( underneath ),that would have gone to the heater i have blanked off. The other steel pipe for the return from the heater i have just removed altogether. For the thermostat byepass i have used the stub fitting in the front of the manifold as you can see. I initially thought i may have to open this up a little having lost the heater return, but it has proved fine actually taking slightly longer to get to temp. I have however drilled a 3mm hole in the top of the thermostat which will also help with byepassing. I did this because for some reason when plumbing up like this the thermostat would occasionally be slow to open, temps hitting the red and i would have to stop and switch off for a few minutes. Other times it would be ok. I put this down to an air lock around the thermostat as when i took it out to test it worked fine and it was only a couple of years old. Since drilling the 3mm hole it works perfect every time.

The small outlet near the ecu sensor is also blanked off as it always has been. Makes a usefull bleed point.

I would say this set up works works spot on now. With the standard 4.3 setup my temp gauge would get to temp and then noticeably drop when the thermostat opened. Now as i say the engine takes slightly longer to get to temp, only slightly buy the gauge gets to temp and then stays there with no drop. This to me indicates a more gradual opening of the stat.

Thanks for the compliments BTW.

Right just a quick update on this for Mr. hedgehopper if you are still pondering the Scooby and astra pump mod and as to whether the pump will fit.

First couple of pics are of the pump in position.

Second two show how far the bonnet will open before hitting the top of the pump.

As you can see it is not very much. It stops the bonnett going back to its full extent by just 1cm. The edge of the bonnett just catches the very top 1cm of the pump lid. All in all it isnt a problem as the bonnet will open anyway by the time it hits the pump.

I know i dont have an expansion bottle to contend with but just thought i`d post the pics. Sorry they are squ wiff.

Done a few miles with the setup now over the last few weeks and all i can say is its brilliant. Makes driving the car so so much more enjoyable. Literally day and night.

Yep, sure does.

How anyone can say they prefer non pas is beyond me. Even driving at speed i found it a pain going round corners. Now its a total joy to drive.

I wouldn't go back either.

Ian,thanks for the latest pictures, finished result looks very neat. Can't copy you however as my expansion tank is in the same location. At the moment I'm using the standard hydraulic pump but it's very noisy (even though it's new). My car is away at the moment having a Canems ECU fitted so there may be some space once I ditch the charcoal filter in the inner wing.

Hello,

I have the same Astra electric pump for my own conversion.

Does anyone know the size of the thread into the pump. I have a 3/8" BSP that seems slightly too large...

Thanks in advance
