Good Brake Discs
Discussion
I got some Mintex for my rears last winter.. the machining was poor.. the wall thickness varied so much I was sure they would cause problems... like the casting had been machined at an angle so the walls went fron thick to thin in one rev.
They are local to me so I gave them a call.. and they send a guy up to have a look....
He comfirmed they were not acceptable and went back to look at the batch... they scraped the lot.
They are part of TDM Friction and their premium brand is Textar from Germany... so he got me a set of these, nicle plated and great quality
So... if you can find new Mintex they may be better having had the last lot scraped off....
If not try Textar if you can find them (don't have the numbers)... got to say, their customer service was spot on though
BTW... I tried 3 sets last year... Ferodo were the same as above... and QH what I thought was a top brand were to worst of the lot... they told me they buy from anywhere and re-brand.. so they have no idea of the quality they will get
Have fun... but make sure what ever you get, you give them a good inspection before fitting....
Wall thicikness needs to be constant, same thinkness both sides, and balancing marks need to be there etc

EBC do good discs, Think their part number is GD150. Baretti might be able to confirm?

If in doubt measure your current ones..
Don't get drilled discs as they crack/warp under hard use.
You can't go wrong with Mintex 1144 pads + they work well from cold.

Yep, GD150 for 5 litre cars. If it's an earlier car you can put later spec callipers on and fit these as an upgrade.
Grooved. Dimpled.
Don't hammer them until you've got a few miles on them and bedded them in because you can warp them. I did this to my first set but the second set have been on a good few thousand miles now and are still good.

I have Black Diamond disks on my Chimaera - ventilated and grooved. The braking is so much better than any disks I have had before, and while they are 324mm disks (I do track days), I see no reason why their smaller ones shouldn't be just as awesome. I have the same pads and callipers as I had before, so it must the the disks that are so much better.
Do make sure you use good quality pads, regardless of what disks you fit - best brake upgrade you can buy. Ferodo DS2500 or Mintex 1144 (I think it is) tick the box for me

Ditto, Black diamond V&G but with 283mm front discs and DS2500 pads. I've tried several other leading brands and this situp is by far the best for me Do make sure you use good quality pads, regardless of what disks you fit - best brake upgrade you can buy. oh, and don't forget...braided flexi lines and decent race fluid (I use Castrol SRF, its a bit pricy but awesome for track use)

That's my brake upgrade plan, good discs and pads, plus new fluid and hoses. Mintex 1144 were strongly advised to me by my TVR specialist, so am going with these.
Where is a good source to buy from for discs?
I was hoping to keep original calliper on front and fit larger disc within my 15" wheels, with 280ish disc. Is there a bracket or kit available to do this out of interest?
Thanks
