Hi folks.

Bit of an odd one here, but hoping you can help – I’m building my third car (already done one scratch-built Locost and one Westfield).

This one will be a V8 powered heavyweight Haynes Roadster 7, a bit of a bruiser and I’d like to follow the proven recipe set out by TVR in their Chimera and Griffith models. I’m a big fan of a strong drivetrain (too many years of wrecking diffs and halfshafts in old Land Rovers) so at least I’ll know it’ll take the strain of my homebuilt Rover V8.

I’ve spent ages searching the internet and keep getting loads of conflicting info – particularly on the rear diff/drivetrain arrangement. Could anyone confirm donor cars which uses similar rear diff/driveshaft components?

I need to keep it all OEM stuff in order to keep the cost down and I’ve read the superb alternative parts lists found online but it was a bit lacking around the diff.

Rear diff – all LSDs: GKN up to 1997, BTR thereafter, BTR Hydratrak as an option – suitable donors? Not a clue. Granada? Sierra Cosworth? Maserati? Vauxhall Frontera/Omega?
Rear halfshafts – again not a clue – I’ve heard that equal length Granada shafts were used but this confuses me as I wouldn’t have thought they would have married to a non-Ford diff?

Front uprights and rear hubs –donor: Sierra (not sure which model – poss XR4i). Perfect as these will work with standard Haynes Roadster wishbones.
Front callipers & discs – donors: Escort or Sierra Cosworth
Rear capliers & discs – donors: Early Cosworth or XR4i/Xr4x4
Gearbox – BW T5 World Class plus custom bellhousing) – basic donors include numerous American cars (mustang, firebird, camaro, etc plus obvious 2WD Sierra cosworth)

Any pointers would be very welcome - ideal would be a model number or part number for the pre and post 1997 diffs and a corresponding halfshaft.

Any info I receive will be contributed to the online alterative parts lists to help TVR owners.

Cheers.
