When my Griffith is up to temperature if I have to stop at traffic lights etc. the revs are high at 1500 - 1700. When cold it starts up perfectly and car runs well generally. Can anyone tell me why this would happen. New stepper motor has been fitted.

Most likely a stepper motor issue or an air leak, but could be road speed sensor...mine does this as it keeps getting a signal from the speedo black box. If I turned the ignition off and on again, often it would be fine for the rest of the journey.

I still suspect your stepper motor.
You say East Midlands on your profile.
I am just outside Newark.
If you want to pop over some time soon you can try my stepper on your car, as my idle is a perfect 900 rpm. I used to have the same issue on my previous stepper, which then became temperature sensitive so was changed, but for a used original TVR one. The new replacements often give problems.

Email me if you fancy trying it.

A good way to do a check if it's the stepper or something else.

Are you sure you have the base idle set correctly? This is worth doing, have a look at the link and scroll down to . http://www.rv8r.co.uk/tickover.html

Have a look and see if the plastic plug is still in place that hides adjustments screw ....my bet is its already removed and then a simple thing to do. Instead of plugging the hose I use mole grips and two bits of cardboard to spread the pressure then clamp the pipe shut.

@OP; apoligies for going off topic

@fasterM; First of all, my 3000S won't be going anywhere without me ! I have always longed for the looks, noise and power of a Griff, but held back due to expensive Belgian taxes.

When the right one came along, I could not resist, so in 5 weeks the 3000S will have a stable-mate.

Good luck in choosing a TVR, the hunt, drives and ownership (you are entering a mad, mad world..)
