Plotting and scheming as usual. Trying to work out the extent of the damage to this Griff. It needs a new chassis and a minor fibreglass repair, but what about the main mechanical bits? I'm not so worried about radiators and pipes and stuff, but more the whole drivetrain. Anyone know anything?

TVR Glen is selling it. I will be up in Ashington early November so if it's still around I can take a look if that is of any help. I see you're from Surrey so I guess you will need someone who knows the language up there Come back to me if you're still interested.
Personally I think it's a lot of money being asked for a C condition car that's then been totalled. You'll write off 2 years of your life getting it all back together ending up with something worth £10K less than you spent.

I'm aware it is a mess, however, if I was planning on replacing the chassis and having a retrim and respray then there is little point spending a lot more for a car that isn't damaged. What particularly interests me about this car is that it apparently doesnt come up as CAT C/D on an HPI check. That makes quite a difference if I ever came to sell.

Yes I did. But someone else did all the work. I owned it but it wasn't 'mine' if you know what I mean. That's what I'm looking to create by rebuilding something.I think this was the previous thread. It's been up for sale for some time and they've dropped the price:

I think you could be buying a 'bottomless money pit', I agree with other contributors buy a £13,000 Griff and do it up. Pete

Yeah, further investigation suggests it's a non starter for me. Shame but there you go. FWIW, I wanted a car I could enjoy driving. I don't want a car that's an investment because I won't enjoy driving it because I'll feel I'm devaluing it in some way. That's why a damaged car appeals. It won't be worth as much and will never be worth as much as a pristine, undamaged car and so I won't have to worry. I know that won't compute for a lot of you, but that's how my brain works.

Not all Griffs for sale are pristine but neither are they wrecks. Buy yourself a non-pristine Griff (and they are around) drive it, enjoy it and maybe one day you may feel the urge to rebuild it. Buying yourself a wreck is fine but to turn that wreck into a driver, you are going to have to do a load of work and to not do that work will mean you are driving an unsafe car around - so which is the better option? PeteI agree with all the comments above, I'm actually thinking of a complete change of plan anyway. I'm going to go 75% part time at work which means less cash for toys, but 12 extra weeks off per year. As much as I want the nice toy in the garage I want the time off more. Might be able to afford a scruffy, but sound 4 litre Chimaera, but that's about it.
