Went to Tenby at the weekend and the car started dropping a bank of injectors again which I thought had been resolved by the work that had been done on the car over the last 12 months. It happened twice but there is no warning or no particular condition when it happens but hasn't happened under hard acceleration yet so hasn't caused any dangerous situations. The power just goes, in fact you cant accelerate but slow down. It kicks neat fuel out the back and the exhaust noise changes dramatically to sound like a rough tractor.
If I turn the engine off and restart its OK again. Was told to look at the earths but not so sure as why would it rest itself? Any suggestions?

Also got an issue when accelerating, mainly when overtaking so want full power. The engine revs rise higher than the speed I'm doing but cant fatham out why this would be. Only noticed it over this weekend and seems to have happened since the tyres were changed (to R1R's) but cant see this having an impact. Again, any ideas?

I just want to be able to go out, at least once, when I don't have any problems.

Turning ignition off and then on to cure the fuelling fault seems strange for it to be just a wiring (earth) issue, tried another ecu?

The ECU has been changed. Guess this one could be faulty also? Bit too coincidental that it would have the same fault.

Peter,
Doesn't seem to suffer under hard acceleration from standstill just when in 4th/5th and want to do a hard accelerate to overtake.

ecu or loom fault assuming your spark is ok.

And yes clutch. It will slip more in the higher gears 4th/5th.

ECU has been changed and still have the fault so must be wiring somewhere. It goes really well other than when this happens. Best to replace the whole engine loom or just patch it up? If patching what is best to replace first?

Problem is finding where in the loom the fault is as it could be anywhere from the ecu plug to the injectors and theres quite a few wires on the 14 cux. Think i would be looking at a new loom.

I made a new loom for mine when going to Emerald. Upon looking at the old loom some of the soldered joints were past their best and had gone a bit dusty breaking down. I suppose is to be expected 20 + years on.

I think Hoover has had a new ecu and loom for the same reason as you.

Shaun, (MS2Tuning) made me a new loom for my MS install.

If you are keeping the Lucas it would still be wise to renew the loom, I'm sure Shaun would make one for you.

You'll be rid of unwanted wiring and have a neat install.

I do actually have a spare loom from a Chimaera so could strip the engine loom out and swap it over.
Thanks for all the help.

I'm gonna say as its the mans choice Griff and not the girly chimaera, revs rising is wheelspin cool

Tho in reality yes its a clutch fault.

Had wheelspin at 85 in third after passing another chim on the way to the growl.

Wet motorway, lesson learnt!

R1R's on now - no wheel spin. The island near home is great for screeching around (in any car) but couldn't even get a squeal out of them yesterday.

Check the pins in your ECU plug, I had an identical fault and one of the pins had worked loose probably due to yanking the ECU out to tidy up the rats nest. There is very little play on the ECU loom so any movement puts pressure on the plug. Form the rear of the engine looking forward: Pin 11 left bank of injectors, pin 13 Right bank. Worth a try!

Thanks. Will have a look. Its a real PITA when it happens as there is no pattern. Just glad it seems to happen in non dangerous situations.
Didn't fancy changing the loom so this looks like a potential solution.
