Hi

I need 4 tyres for my Griffith - 16 inch all round, but there appears to be nothing available at the moment apart from the Bridgestones which I don't want. Tried Toyo Direct, Camskill, Black Circles and others and nothing.

Car is SORN at the moment so no mad rush but I am starting to think about getting a set of SP12s.

Are there any other supply options that I'm missing?

Its a funny old size ,I`m running Falken 452`s ,great tyre but they have been superceded by the 453`s but i don`think they come in that size .

The Toyo`s work well with these cars

I'm in the same boat. After a puncture last weekend, and a disappointing search for replacements, I finally stumbled upon the Demon Tweeks Toyo's shown in the link above. After almost a week of waiting I called them only to hear that they were on back order, and it could be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months for a lead time. So, order cancelled and money refunded, the search continues. I did ask if the Toyo T1R's had been discontinued in the 245/45/r16 size, but I was told that as far as they (DemonTweeks) knew the tyre was still being or to be produced.

I can't see things getting any better in future so I am looking at buying new 17" alloys. Not sure I like the SP12s that much though.

I can find Bridgestone S-02 245/45 R16, but I recall that they are not recommended for the Griffith. Can anyone elaborate as to why? What about Kumho?

Sidewall on the Bridgestone is too stiff apparently.

The only tyres I can find in our size are the new Bridgestone S02, Kumho KU31, Nexen CP641.

Does anyone have any experience, recommendations, or warnings about these tyres?

Any advice would be welcome. I appreciate that each tyre type will be different, but it's getting to the point now where we'll have to fit something or not drive them at all (on the original wheels that is).

Uniroyal Rainsport 3's - no issues so far, I've had bridgestone & toyo in the past and these rainsports are just as good if not better.

I had no issue getting them at my local tyre place and comparable price to the others too.

Uniroyal is available in 225/50/16 92Y which would be roughly the same overall diameter / rolling whatever. You may be presious about loosing '20' on the width though. Not been an issue on my Tamora when I fitted 225's [Uniroyal Rainsport 3} all round despite warnings from on here of the car becoming tail happy and undriveable. Done two trackdays on them as well.

'My tyres' have Toyo Proxes T1-R's in stock in the 245/45/94W. Not sure if the 94 sidewall rating would be too hard though.

In the end I have been able to get a set of Toyo Proxes in the correct sizes over the last couple of weeks. I got the fronts from Amazon of all places and put on the refurbished front Estorils by Lepsons. The rears were from mytyres and will be put on the rears by a local fitter next week.

So good for another few years with wheels as it left the factory. Back on the road at the end of the month.

I opted for Kumho KU31 tyres in the end. Because of the weather I haven't driven that many miles on them (maybe a couple of hundred), but I think I actually prefer them over the Toyo's.

The side walls are stiffer than the Toyo's which I like as I felt the Toyo's thinner side walls made them quite twitchy, even with higher pressures to try and compensate. The Kumho's seem just as grippy as the Toyo's in the dry. I've only driven a handful of miles in the wet, but they seem perfectly fine. Another positive is that they are the correct speed rating, and it gives us another alternative tyre for the original wheels.
