That's because the British are useless at any service industry.
I'd agree in most cases, though there are the exception here but they are that, an exception. Some others seem to treat you with contempt almost.Example; I needed a mid-shifter kit for a TKO box, listed on a UK companies website as in stock, called them, 'nah, got none' ah, when will you be getting any more? 'dunno' any idea? 'nah, might be April'. Will it be April? 'dunno, might be'. FFS.
Hi Mac
What selector mod are you referring to?
The carbon lining in the blocking rings (synchros) acts as a brake and helps the blocking rings match the speed of the spinning gear assembly on the main shaft allowing quick gear changes.
Well that's the theory. I will have to wait a while to find out what it is like in reality

Hi mate, apologies only just seen this. yes the carbon synchro rings and brass pads on selector forks as opposed to the plastic one which wear with heavy use [according to 'Brummie' who has had them replaced]What selector mod are you referring to?

Well Bl**dy Hell how quick is a Wildcat 6.2Lt any way? Mighty quick in fact, in the Davrian sports car with aero. I can confirm it is just a tad slower than my 6.2Lt Chevrolet full fat race car. I raced against Ian Hall in his Davrian Wildcat on Monday and he quallied in a mighty 1:08.59 at combe. This car but with a new built 600BHP 6.2Lt Wildcat in it car No 17....

It was very impressive indeed and that says something as my car is no slouch
found a picture from Monday............

As far as I know, the Wildcat can only go up to 6.0 with the 4 inch block
If you were running with forced induction this would be smaller max of about 5.8
All from memory from speaking with Ian Richardson.
The 5.2 uses the standard Rover block (not the Wildcat special block) and 5.2 implies that he is using the Ford forged steel crank (£1200 from memory).

I was told this is a new engine built this winter and was 6.2lt but us racers are like fisherman prone to exaggerate some times. Two different people told me 600 bhp may be they were putting me off. All I know is, we were even stevens at 150 mph and I wasn't catching him any after that. I have about 550bhp and a bit more torque hence why I posted how impressed I was with the performance of a N/A car. Very quick
Hi There,
I am new to this forum, but was enjoying the discussion on the Wildcat engines and the subsequent pictures.
Back in 2003 I bought my Wildcat 4.000" block with stage 1 cylinderheads for my DAX Cobra.
When I met Ian Richardson I learned that he had succesfully raced with an original AC Cobra, so I thought it would be a nice twist to install one of his special blocks into my car.
Over the years I enjoyed the advices of Ian and modified the engine with a rollercam, Aviaid dry sump system with Wildcat timing cover and drysump and other bits and pieces.
The Wildcat 4.000" bore engines and parts are descrited in a chapter 10 of Des Hamill book "How to powertune Rover V8 engines for road and track" where is mentioned that the Wildcat TVR of Carl Hansen made 747bhp.
Enclosed some pictures.
Cheers
Rik

Welcome to PH Rik,
That is one very impressive engine! I too have the Des Hamill book, it is full of lots of shiny things that I cannot afford. I keep toying with the idea of Wildcat heads but I hear they do not play nicely with the JE crossover inlet manifold which I also like the look of for individual throttle bodies.
I bet that engine sounds amazing with those carbs!

Hi Matthew & Phil
The Wildcat heads will have the same bolt pattern as normal RV8's so an independent cross ram manifold should fit as long as left and right hand bank are not into one manifold. Rocker covers and head are much larger so there could be crashes if the carbs are already close to the RV8 rocker covers.
It would be a very intereseting and powerfull setup !
Sound is awesome, especially while it barkes with revs like a motorbike.
I am running a custom made Erson rollercam 247/247 @ 0.050, with a lift of 0.541" and 110 duration.
Carl Hansen's engine was a naturally aspirated engine but running over 8000 rpm on aviation fuel.
Description of the engine parts is in the book.

Hi Rik
Nice addition to the thread. Any chance you could add a photo of the Cobra with your Wildcat engine.
Could you tell me where you got the roller lifters from?
Are they hydraulic or solid roller lifter?
What valve springs are you using with your roller cam and where did you get them from?
Thanks in advance

Tony,
Here's one brand I'm sure you may of heard of and which you should be able to order through any decent speed shop but would probably save money by ordering direct is:
http://store.yellaterra.com.au/search.php?search_q...
Another Google lead. Possibly their own brand: http://www.thewedgeshopstore.com/products/Roller-R...
Another RR brand worth looking at is Harland Sharp in the US but their catalogue does not liost Rover/Buick 215.
