Hi,

I'm in a rebuild of my Griff and need some help. Has anyone got any pictures of:
How the door lock hole is covered?
How the body door seal ends (is there a piece of metal it goes over)?

Thanks
Spike

Door lock hole?
Not quite sure what you mean by this Spike

Do you mean the catch hole in the body work ? This isn't covered.
And on the door its a loop not a hole so there is nothing to cover.

Am I being dense?

I mean the body of the car from the inside to the locking mechanism. Is it just a hole covered with the carpet?

A neat covering plate would seem like a good idea...but this is a TVR don't forget.

My car just has carpet held with velcro so that it can be pulled back as required.

aha, I wasn't being thick then - that makes a pleasant change biggrin

Mine also just has carpet hanging over the hole. And its documented in the Bible that you just lift the carpet to get to the locking mechanism so I assume they are all the same.

Spike, I think I'm being thick here as well. Do you mean access to the striker plate from the body of the car or access to the door lock mechanism through the door?

Anyway no matter, I am also rebuilding one of my Griff 500s and the other I am driving. I haven't attacked the door mechanism yet so if you let me know exactly what you want I can photo it, or alternatively if you live anywhere near the Berkshire area you can look yourself.

Unfortunately I am not back in the UK until the 6th February so it will have to be after that. Hope this will help. Pete

Pete, Unfortunately I'm not in your area,

The 2 arrows show what i mean.
The lock mech is not in the door but in the car body. It's just a metal loop on the door itself.
The other arrow is the top of the door trim an I think there should be a small metal plate for the trim to fold over.

I'm after this info because it should be going to the trimmers in the next few weeks

Spike, if you can wait until after the 6th then I can do some investigation for you, perhaps you can tell me what you want over the phone. If anyone else can help beforehand then fine. Pete

PS. I was going to go the same way with the Chimp vents on the bonnet, seems like a no-brainer.

Here you go Spike, I think this is what you're looking for.
The door shut on mine is just painted. The entire mechanism is behind, only the three screw heads on the outside.

The small piece of metal at the end of the door seal is particularly crappy and looks like this

Hope this helps
Dave

Dave,

Thanks for the pic's. The bottom one is spot on. does anything cover the hole that give access to the door lock mechanism (the big hole just below the bottom picture)?

On mine there was just a fibreglass square stuck to the back of the carpet. Very crude but I suppose it is just to give the carpet some rigidity over the hole.

Thanks Dave that's great. I have those, though they don't fill the holes. I may put some of the Fatmat that I have over the holes or devise something bigger.

Does this area let any water in with the holes?
