Best Order for Roof, Carpets & Respray
Discussion
As the title really, is there a preferred order for these works?
My thinking is as follows:
1 - Carpet
2 - Roof
3 - Paint
Rationale is:
1 - Carpet fitting could damage paint and could affect roof alignment/tightness, so do it first.
2 - Roof will be removed to paint and should be refitted "perfectly". No issues if roof fitting damages paint.
3 - Painting last prevents other sources of damage, however roof fit may not be perfect afterwards.
Is this sensible or have I lost it? The roof is probably my last priority as I don't really use it unless I have to.
Of course I could take the car to Bristol Avenue and do everything at once but finances may not allow such an approach!

I would get the car painted first. It's the Most £ costly job
And a fresh coat of well applied paint transforms a Griff !! Body shops are dusty places and no matter how carefully the car is masked up dust gets everywhere and overspray is inevitable.
However, much of the interior carpets and trim could be removed by yourself before it goes into the paint shop ? My one needs a new roof, but as I don't drive it in the wet it's not urgent atm !

A good perspective! I'd not considered the dust element of getting the bodywork looking great despite having been to S&D, Central TVR and Option1 in the past and witnessed the billowing clouds produced.
Happy enough to strip the interior myself, considering fitting myself but time/£ equation against me.

Hi,
I have done carpet, roof and paint next as per your original plan myself.
If you or someone else is doing the roof or carpet, the risk of tools / belt buckle / buttons touching / scratching the body is high, due to the amount of physical interaction required to complete those jobs.
For painting the car the roof comes off and goes on easily which is less risk, worse case scenario dust can be vacuumed from the carpets if needed.

I have my chim fulled restored 2 1/2 years ago body off engine out new roof and carpets, I have the respray first then the trimmer fitted the carpets and roof, As I said the roof has to come off anyway for the full respray so you dont want to be fitting the new one, taking it off again for the respray then refitting again ? Any good car trimmer worth his salt will cover the paint work whilst working on your carpets and roof fitting, spray gets anywhere even if you think you have masked off it finds those nooks and crannis :0

Is that a BMW color ? And yes, any pro trimmer will cover the bodywork.
What £ quotes have you had for the re paint ?
According to Potato Muncher's list http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... it is an original TVR colour. Haven't sought quotes yet but bodywork is my first area of interest so will progress it imminently. Current thoughts are Option 1 in Bromsgrove (fairly near me), possibly S&D (not near me at all!), Washington Coachworks (not that near me)What £ quotes have you had for the re paint ?
