Mainbeam spotlamps

Hi all,

Hope someone can advise me about the mainbeam lamps. Mine are original Cibie sc spotlamps, unfortunately one has been smashed. I have found little information while searching for a replacement other than some comments about them also being used on the BMW E30. Racetech direct have alternative replacements at around £60 +vat, advising you to buy two as they are not the same as the originals. I only need one.

Does anyone have information on alternatives, part numbers or are the Racetech lamps the only realistic option? The smashed lamp still functions, can they be refurbished? Thanks

I bought replacement ones - much improved and better beam spread.

Before you ask, no the other lamp is long gone.

Driving Lamps : Cibies / Valeo 01233822580 part No 082348 M1029 or Euro Car Parts number 471890010. I got mine from Euro Car Parts - 01932 570 820 in Chertsey. Cost £135 4 years ago.

As luck would have it, I received a set of Carbodisks in the post today......

I was also lucky enough to secure a full set of E30 BMW lamps some time ago, which are in the cupboard for spare. (you need the glass lens only...)

Would like to keep one lens for spares, the other one is yours if you want it, PM me !

You want a Cibie 5 3/4 H1 main beam headlight. Currently about £90 a pair on eBay. The glass is domed but they do go straight in and give a better spread of light then the flat faced lights

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm still struggling to find out about replacements for the headlights (as opposed to the main beam units). Mine are not broken but I need to replace them with the LHD version and no-one has been able to tell me definitively what the units are. The only places I can find to buy them from are the usual suspects with the 'TVR tax'.

Anyone know?

Yep, did know that. I, per se, don't need any, it was to have a cheapo spare part in the cupboard, but apparently not so !

I did install Carbodisks yesterday;



It might be interesting to know for the OP tho !

Good call Frank, considerably cheaper than the UK (and Belgian) suppliers, and replied on a Sunday!

Really ? Out of curiosity, what do they charge ?

Will do. I am going to see if the car passes its Controle Technique (French MoT) as it is first, the lights might be so dim that the tester doesn't consider them to be an inconvenience to on-coming traffic!

Will do. I am going to see if the car passes its Controle Technique (French MoT) as it is first, the lights might be so dim that the tester doesn't consider them to be an inconvenience to on-coming traffic!

That could well be, I have cleaned the pods internally (some skills required ) and changed the bulbs for HDI H1, 110% ones, hence the light yield is now rather good on mine !

Thanks bluezeeland for your help, it seems that unless I stumble upon an original lamp in the next week or so I'll go with the racetech ones. But, will certainly invest in some of those plastic protectors!

As an alternative to the Carbodiscs you can use 3M Scotchgard clear protection vinyl film, it's not expensive and, unlike the carbodiscs, you won't even notice it's there once applied. I used carbodiscs on my first Griff but one got knocked off and I switched to the Scotchgard film (at the time there were companies selling it pre-cut to fit TVR lights). While I don't expect it will withstand quite the impact polycarbonate will, I've never had a spotlight lens break with it fitted. Apparently it was designed to protect helicopter blades from debris during the Vietnam War. Readily available on Fleabay.

Had a dig about in my email, and I actually got them from TVR Power. Part number MO129.

The guy who fitted them said they were an absolute pig to fit.
