Older? Yes

It's inevitable.

Slower? No

It was a Griff 1-2 at the last TVRCC Speed Championships meeting at Rockingham on the 22nd March. We also beat the entire Ferrari Championship entry inc F458 & F430 Scuderia.

Cannot understand why the lack of activity on the Grief forum is such a surprise.
Chimaera and S owners drive their cars all year round. The engine in my Chim just passed 21,000 miles - since it was installed in April 2013.
Griefs will just be emerging from hibernation about now for the Grief-driving season, when they do the first 50 of their annual 1,000 miles. Not a surprise there's little posted - the cover is still on from last September. But the string backed driving gloves, chest wigs and medallions will soon be out for that all too brief annual airing by their besotted owners.
See y'all at Burghley.....whistle

My car didn't get much use last year due to health reasons, but now I'm 'fixed' and my car has a new lease of life too. Its had a shed load of money thrown at it, just been serviced and had a few new bits and bobs. Ready for summer. I'm 'interested'.

Carry on.

No Ian you're not talking to yourself.

Re: the lack of activity on the forums.
I certainly think Facebook has driven some of the decline in the PH activity as I see the same sorts of questions coming up there that used to get asked on PH; my concern there is that it's not so easy to look back historically to see the answers to questions that have been asked before.

I check all the PH TVR Forums most days using the 'what's New' feature. I'll contribute when I think I have something useful to say (IMHO) :-) If I see a thread descending into what appears to be squabbling then I'll tend to stop following it.

For example: I have been following the thread on LED headlight bulbs (yes I know it's on the Chimaera forum but it is a good example) as I am interested in this and there seems to be some useful info being put out. I've not contributed as I can't speak from experience and anything I did post would just be my opinion with no real basis. It did for a while threaten to go off topic on the rights and wrongs of putting in LED headlights which I think is a personal choice for each owner to make but has recently got back to providing useful information.

I don't have much interest in making huge modifications to the car and I'm not a regular fiddler; if it ain't broke don't fix it, is probably my motto. If something's not running right I'll get on and fix it and I'll post here if I need help or advice but I'll usually do a google search to see if I can find a previous thread before I post.

I like it pretty much the way it is, there are a few things I will change from an aesthetics point of view but that is things like interior colour, which is my preference and not something I would ask someone else's opinion on. This year the car is going in to be resprayed to tidy up the bodywork but I didn't bother posting up a question about where to go as it has been asked numerous times on many of the TVR forums. I've got some names from those previous threads and I'm waiting for some quotes to come back so I can decide who to use.

I'll probably post up info about the job when it is done, assuming it goes well, in case people are looking for a recommendation but obviously if it goes badly then I'll not be able to name and shame. However I don't expect the latter to happen as all the companies I;m contacting have had recommendations on here.

Have I lost interest in my Griffith - nope not in the slightest. Last year I did more miles than I've ever done before but I have posted less because..... shock horror...... it's been running great. I try to get the TVR out once a week at least, even if it is just commuting to the office and back, I'll take the Griffith to the supermarket (via the scenic route) if I can. I wouldn't class my car as a garage queen but if it is pouring with rain then I'll take the Jag to work as I'd rather the other lunatics on the road hit that than my TVR. Traffic has definitely got worse and that does play into my decision about when to take the TVR or the Jag.

I'm a member of the TVRCC and I get out to the monthly meet in Berkshire most months, Phil and Calvin have done a great job in revitalising the region in my opinion and I attend as many of the events as I can, whilst still trying to keep a balance with family commitments and work. I don't think the TVRCC forums are much more active than they were before; I check them a couple of times a week and contribute when I can as well. I often see the same post appear on both PH and the TVRCC forums and if I have something to contribute I'll tend to reply on the forum I saw it on first.

Been there and done most of that with the mods (didn't read everything but it's a familiar enough story), but remember that choices were more limited back in the day... wink

I haven't lost interest in owning and using a Griff, but priorities change over the years. I was 25 when we bought the Griff over 10 years ago, and much about life has changed. I always thought TVR ownership was a "before kids" or "after kids" thing. It seems I have been luck enough to own a TVR "during kids", but there's not much time to do all the TVR things I would like to do given the two top priorities I have: Wanting to spend time with my daughter before she considers me an old & useless dinosaur and the requirement, given my age, chosen profession and lifestyle desires, of (and I hate using the term) career management. I have even less time to discuss TVR related activities than for doing them, so I am quiet apart from when I have questions that require other owner input.

I won't be attending the season opener this year simply because our local authority put the school holidays in an incompatible place in the calendar. frown I had words, but it did no good. wink But it does free up a couple of days travel time to do something fun or educational with daughter - like taking her to a theme park in the TVR. I can (assuming the laws don't change too much) enjoy a TVR for another 20 years (on a track if necessary). I can only enjoy being Daddy for another 7 or so before I am just required to pay the bills and provide embarrassment.

Anyone else in this position, or are you all in the before and after categories?

Maybe the forums will be merged into a Chim/Griff forum like the T350/Sag/tam. Its not a bad idea since they are so similar... you hang in our forum a lot anyways smile

Same boat as you. TVR purchased at 25 when I could finally afford the insurance, 7 years later now married with a young family so priorities have changed. TVR gets used less but still find the time a attend events, I just have to be more picky. I still love the Griff and although things have changed the passion for the griff remains.

Woah, we are not alone, the other 10 and I. And it's wonderful to hear from you all.

Literally.

The thing is, I don't care if you just pop up and say "hey, guess what, I just changed a bulb"
We don't all have to be fitting super chargers. Not everyone can and not everyone wants to.

I'd be interested to both hear from and help anyone, no matter how often it's been asked. Not everyone has managed the finer points of searching, or knows to search for "sloppy back and forth LT77" to find out how to diagnose a gear lever bush failure, but it's all there.
Try doing that on Facebook where once you get past 6 comments you can't even see the ruddy question anymore.

It's nice to see there is still enthusiasm on the forum. Even that git Ballistic Banana is welcome back.

I found with any major piece of work it helps when you are taking photos and updating a blog because knowing other people might read it encourages you along.
Do it Jester7
