I'm getting pissed off with leaky steering racks, four rebuilds and mine's still misting. If I can't get off my arse and do the Scooby conversion I'm in danger of selling weeping

Ya see, that's what p1sses me off and I have a chim.

40K on the clock and the TVR PS rack has just started to have play in it.

Last year at 8K on its replacement engine it threw a cam bearing.

The only thing in its defence is that with all the mods it's super quick and handles well.

Scooby conversion for me next winter.

Got a lot more toys to play with now so they all get less use. Still love the Griff, am going to the Wedgefest, not a TVRCC member and very unlikely to ever rejoin.
I guess that's the nub of it. I bought the Griff new back in '99 and used it for Le Mans, Goodwood, TVRCC tours etc. then I got the Aston and then a Porsche so there's more choice of which car to take where. I'll never sell the Griff but my days of constantly tinkering with it are over.
What sort of age range are you in RichB? I ran 3 AMs but eventually got bored with them because they are too 'perfect' (and also because, to get any sense that you're pushing them to anywhere near their limit, you have to be driving at senseless speeds). I reverted to my first automotive love, a TVR of course, and don't regret it (despite the failed CT!!).
Totally different to what you lot are thinking, it's a 1958 DB2/4 hehe In recent years I've been to the Le Mans Classic in it twice and on a 2,500 tour through the Alps to the Italian lakes and Monza. In a similar way to how I used to put miles on the Griff 10 years ago. The Porsche is ostensibly my wife's car but it's still fun to drive even if it doesn't provide the pure adrenalin rush of the Griff. But for example we took that to Goodwood last weekend simply because with weather so cold it was more suitable than the Griff. I'm 58 by the way. In a way all three cars complement each other but it means they each get used less. That said, I keep the Griff taxed all year and insured all year. I can't be bothered with SORNing it to save £100 or whatever, I like to have it there just in case I fancy a blast!

I'll pipe up for once and I have to say, my interest in my Griff has waned off massively over the last 5-6 years. Sadly in a year the Griff has done less than 100 miles frown My first year I covered about 12,000! This probably has to do with a few factors:

  • Other vehicles - As the Griff got older I got an Elise and used that a fair bit. Then due to a change in jobs I switched to bikes.
  • Time to drive it - I am now working away a lot and rarely have free time.
  • Cost - Petrol costs are astronomical
  • Different priorities - When I got my Griff I was 23, 11 years later, houses and other stuff divert time etc.
That said, this year I want to give the Griff some much needed TLC (if it passes it's MOT) and get out in it more.

I'm tempted to see if I can get a drive in/drive out price from Engineer 1949, he looks more than up to the job and has the necessary machining facilities on site.

Good idea and he's a good bloke.

I converted my old 4.6 chim to Scooby a few years ago but SteveSPG did the tricky bits, I just fitted a kit of parts.

When the non-PAS rack goes in the Griff, it's tempting to go the PAS route.

I still pop into ph daily but have had no enthusiasm for the Griffith since 2010..too many litigious warranty issues with so called reputable specialist tvr garages. Gave up and locked the garage doors. ( plus the economy hit my hobby budget big time. Trying to get myself remotivated, just had a total body off resto, which required a lot running gear to be overhauled last year. Car is now having an interior retrim, New hood and all the faults from the chassis resto fixed...I am hoping that at the end of April I will be a happy griff owner again smile

Expert lurking. 20 years an owner and 2 posts. Amazing.
Do you get to TVR events?
Ever been to the Griff Growl?

Either way, welcome to the forum!

Was at a pub yesterday lunchtime, chatting with Steve who uses his cleaning techniques on Wol. There was an I8? BMW in the car park, went over and had a look. Apparently they are £110,000? Anyway, both Steve and his mate said they'd sooner have the Griff. Lovely young-ish lady drooling over it as well. The Griff, that is, not me or Steve.

After 22 years with a Griff, the current one for 17 yrs, just not much left to say? ;-)

That and not many around, and people keeping them longer, ie not as many new owner questions as they change hands less frequently?

Wait until your Griffs get as many miles on them as mine... wink It's getting a bit like Trigger's broom. I looked at the dash panel today, and it turns out that the only original parts left on it are the oil pressure gauge (temporarily, until I finish the last new gauge) the clock and the connector on the wiring. I should have all the old parts in the "standard box" in the attic so I thought it might be fun to assemble a standard dash to remind me what it used to look like.

Begs the question, what does the current dash look like?

You could just go the electric option and not get involved in all that leaky stuff. Engineer1949 has done a nice conversion on his Chim!

Nah, after the forthcoming change of government there will probably be a three day week and a shortage of electricity - then where would you be?
