Rescue my rear window - help
Discussion
THE rear screen cleaner used to be called " Grey Gate plastic polish", a pal used to work on airliners and got me a bottle for the string of TR6s I owned in the early 1980s. It was a milky white liquid and worked an absolute treat. I lost touch with him years ago and don't know if it's still available.
They do this in fine and medium looks lie the stuff ?

First things first chaps. I need to get the residual sticky kak off first.
I've ordered some of the Sticky Stuff suggested by V8 GRF (Thanks) and will feedback on the results of that before I tackle the dimple effect.

Just use white spirit to get rid of the sticky stuff or anything petrol / spirit based as it will eat into the glue and not harm the plastic

Well a quick test last night was interesting.
Sticky Stuff suggested by V8 GRF was useless. Worse than useless in fact because you have to leave it 5-7 minutes then scrape away the glue. Except after 10 minutes it had done nothing more than make it a little easier to scrape off.
So for this stuff, Sticky Stuff is not the answer. But I'm sure it will be useful for something else in future.
To my utter amazement it seems my Stanley knife mechanic friend Billy No Brakes may have hit the nail on the head with his idea of using petrol. It seems to break break down then wipe off the sticky. I'll treat the rear screen to some 303 UV Protection when I'm done to be on the safe side.
I also found the grey witness marks left on the inside of the screen by the roof struts can be wiped off with a dab of petrol too. That will save me 30 mins each time I polish.

Sorry about that Ian, the stuff I bought was excellent, although just checking in the garage it wasn't the Sticky Stuff remover that was the best it was Tar and Glue remover. That'll teach me to go and look rather than post from memory. Sticky Stuff suggested by V8 GRF was useless. Probably a bit more industrial than the one you bough this stuff didn't need to soak in, I put it on a cloth and it just wiped it off with a couple of goes.
No prob David, it was only a couple of quid so worth a try.
This weekend I plan to get the rest of the sticky kak off and have a go with the Autoglym to see if I can get the dimples out and finally be able to see out of the back window
Though to be honest if it looks like its going to rain and I have to put the roof on I will take something else these days. Mind you, thats not going to be an option for the Le Mans 24hr trip where it seems to rain all the ruddy time, but I have a couple of months to get it sorted.

But you have to buy in 5ltrs at a time, but it is excellent stuff and would have made light of your issue.
