Hi All.
I am not really happy with the exhaust note on my Griff. I have tried various combinations, and have never quite achieved what I am looking for. At the moment I have the pre cats removed std Y piece and std exhaust, I quite like the depth of tone of this set up, but would definitely benefit from a bit more volume. I have used the same set up with my decat Y piece (Clive F) this performs really well but the sound is a little too metallic for my liking although it is great over 3k rpm. I have also had a straight through system which was too loud and shouty for my liking, and I felt that the engine lost a considerable amount of power with this pipe for some reason.
So my next step is to investigate the ACT cherry bomb system, but before parting with the readies for one of these I would like to know your experiences of this setup, or any other options that may be available.
Thanks
Kev

I liked the sound of the ACT system on my old car. Makes it a bit noisy for track days butch the bolt one get it to just under 105db.

Video here. http://youtu.be/fzQ2U2eN9Bg

The car is near Gatwick now. Pholt is the profile of the current owner and I am sure he can help you decide.

I've got the Act cherry bomb exhaus as well as the manifolds and sports cats. I had the standard system when I bought it and it was just too quier. Really happy with the sound and a lot of people have said it sounds lovely. It is pretty loud though so not track friendly.

Yes very happy with mine, I have the ACT replica OEM manifolds with no pre-cats. Clive Ford Decat Y piece and ACT cherry bomb exhaust. It is quite loud but nice and refined, surprisingly quiet (relatively speaking) at low revs and cruising on the motorway.

This is what it sounds like outside the car... you can see what I mean about being quieter at low revs:

This is what it sounds on track....

You could take the exhaust to a fabricator and have them cut off the existing silencer, then fit two 18"x4" 2.5 inlet/ outlet stainless silencers off the bay and weld the brackets back on. Would save you about £400 and achieve the same effect.

I have the standard manifolds with pre-cats removed, a Cive F Y Piece and the ACT Cherry Bomb Exhaust, sounds fantastic imo, but if your looking for a specific exhaust tone, you really need to hear the different options in the flesh.

A video only gives an idea

I liked the ACT cherry bomb exhaust but didnt want to pay £711, so I bought some cherry bombs for £70 cut out the gauze in the box and had some nice fellow weld them in place for me. To make sure you dont lose the exhaust configuration fit the Cherry Bombs before removing the Box completely. I cut the top and bottom of the box, spot welded the Cherry's in place then cut of the sides to complete the welding all around the tubes. Test afterwards for leaks. This way you leave the brackets on to bolt it back onto the car. Now sounds awesome, just like the ACT one

Take it down to a fabricator with the exhaust plate so they can weld the boses and the silencers in the right place. If they have a basic jig, they should be able to get the exhaust pipes accurate. It may also be worth clamping the tailpipes to allow you to finely adjust them afterwards, plus facilitate future removal. It may also be owrth you considering clamping the silencers, so you could potentially switch with cats should you go down the turbo route? Just a thought.

I see the benefit of bdising the standard silencer, however, they're not an off the shelf part anymore, so it may be prudent to keep as many original parts that you remove from the car, should you or the future owner want to return to standard... Then the option is there.

Avoid the ribbed Cherrybombs as I've heard several stories of them having an effect on power. A couple of stainless 'bullet' silencers that are perfed on the inside will do the trick.

The ACT exhaust does sound really nice, but is also very expensive. It is a shame that they don't sell the silencer part only and allow you to cut and clamp it onto your existing system, so you can save a few pounds!

Just my input as a fabricator :-) the cherry bombs you are using are mild steel these will rot in 2 or 3 years or a bit longer depending how you use the car ( yes I have looked into this ) but their is someone selling stainless steel ones (I will try and find the link later) I will be fabricating a long stainless cherry bomb at the end of the year and will show itvwhen it is done :-)

Actually the company I used to supply the cherry bombs also do stainless cherry bombs.

If you speak to them they will make any size you want out of stainless or mild steel.
