Self arming alarm
Discussion
I was planning on leaving the car unlocked in the garage, but noticed that even though unlocked, the alarm decides to arm itself. I was kind of hoping to avoid the alarm being on so battery drain would be reduced and wouldn't be woken in the night by alarm faults.
Does the alarm self arm on all Griffiths even though the doors are unlocked?

Thanks. Just wanted to check because on Sunday night, car was unlocked but alarm went off when I opened the door. I tried it just now and it was fine so Sunday was hopefully a one off...
My earlier answer was based on a Meta system which does as described and would not activate on opening an unlocked door.Hope the OP doesn't mind, I'd like to take this question a bit further. When I open the unlocked door on my 98 Griff, the hazard lights flash and the red light on the heater control panel is flashing. The car starts and runs ok so the immobiliser hasn't operated but the impression given is that the alarm has been triggered but without the siren being activated. Any ideas?
Check the siren itself. The replacement sirens have a service mode that turns off the siren, it's controlled by a key that you insert in the siren itself and turn to turn it on/off. The key for mine is one of those cylinder keys - there is a circular key hole on the siren which is covered by a rubber bung
Hmm, no keyhole that I can see, and I have no key for it even if there was.
Just noticed whilst checking that the central locking has stopped working (in the unlocked position), it seems that the problem may be bigger than I'd hoped. Does this amount to a total alarm failure? If so, I seem to recall that a bloke who knows about TVR alarms left the UK for France (where I live), but I can't remember his name. Can anyone else please?

Have you checked proper operation of the door-contacts ?
Was this aimed at me or the other chap? If me, funnyish story, noticed that the passenger door was not closed properly and I think even though the door was not locking, the alarm was still being engaged. It has been fine since so fingers crossed, it was the wife's fault (who has already decided she hates the car).Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
