After 6 years my battery has packed up. Anyone bought one recently? Would this one be OK?:

I just took my Griff to Halfords, pointed to the passenger footwell and said - another that will go in there please.

It took the lad 45 mins to fit it... not a job I'd fancy.

That is excellent news if you can do that. Bet they regret charging £10 or whatever it is they charge for fitting. laugh

Although that was probably preferable to when they fitted the Pure DAB add on for my BMW, charged £30 and spent over 2 hours.

I went to my local battery indie and got the whole thing, Exide Excell, installed etc for £83. Well worth it.
BTW, they got an 072 out of the stores, but when they came to fit it they decided it had the terminals the wrong way around, so got an 073 out and that fitted correctly. So just check the orientation matches your existing set up.

I have now converted to boot mounting the battery, and have changed to an Odessey Gel battery. My TVR indie did it for me and it cost around £200 -£250 all in, but that included running new cables - live direct to the starter and neutral to I don't know where. Result is that I have an extra 7-8 inches of leg room for my passenger and no more grovelling for the battery when disconnection or jump starting is required. The fuse box is still where it was, but much easier to get at.

I've often wondered how do you deal with the carpeting when you remove the battery? Do you have to re-carpet the passenger side?

I installed a smaller battery to get more legroom and had a plate made for passengers to put their feet against, protect the ECU and relays and cover the gap between the passenger footwell mat and the new smaller battery.

The metal box is the same external dimension front to back as the original battery box

End result

I like that QBee. Might consider that myself in the future (if I keep the car).

For now I have simply moved the floor mat forwards, as there is quite an overlap in front of the seat, but in due course I will need a pair of new mats anyway, so will have the passenger side mat made longer. The carpets on the walls of the footwell go far enough forwards, and the kick board still fits, if you are concerned about the vertical bits.

Got you, sound like a good plan, I would prefer the carpeted look.

I have a quite new battery that you can have for free. I fitted it then had my Griff retrimmed and a race battery fitted ( and relocated).

If you come and collect it, its yours. I don't think you are too far from me.

Yet another version.....

ECU safely tucked away under the fuse box, relays where you can get at them, fuses readily changeable and battery can be removed without grovelling under the car.

No problem. Hope you get the battery issues sorted. That belt needs a dose of looking at, and maybe will sort the charging problem. Nice to meet you.

Due to my battery discharge issue over a period of 5 years (now fixed) I am well versed in changing the griff battery and pretty much can do it in a matter of minutes smile

Before you remove the battery box, mark the floor in front......so you know where to push the box back to......mine has a permanent marker line drawn, so didn't have to go looking for pencil every time
