Surprised by a slip in your encyclopaedic knowledge David !

Griff and Chim 500's were priced the same eg Oct 98 both £35700 (basic) with Chim 4.5's @ £34000 and 4.0 @ £31700

My one was HR Owens demo Griff. The First owner Alex Roebuck, told me he paid circa £39,800 for it @ Owens in April 1998.

To be honest I think it's a bit of both, all TVRs are undervalued and the run of the mill Porsches are overvalued. AIMHO obviously.
That, and that TVR owners seem to like to talk prices down...

Hello Quinny, yes I recognise that type of buyer. What made you sell it ? Was there a thread on its build ? What was it like to drive ?
Hi there..

I sold it as I fancied something a bit newer, and being completely honest my knee troubles weren't making the ownership experience that easyfrown.. Just getting in and out, and the manual box were becoming a chore rather than a pleasure.

Yes there was a build thread....Steve did it

Mentalyikes if you wanted it to be, or a complete pussycat if that's what you preferred...thumbup

It would appear you omitted to read the important second line of my post and left out the qualifier I added to my first line. smile

The Griffs were £4k-£5k more expensive new as well so starting from a higher price in the first place as well as there being fewer.

I agree Chimaera 500s should at least have parity with the Griff 500 as they cost the same new, they're basically the same car and the rarest Chimaera by a long way.
With regards to the prices for the cheaper cars they'd closed in at the end with the 4.5 and the price you quote for the 4.0 is £4k less as I suggested.

[Tin foil hat on]
The 'conspiracy theory' about why 4.5s and 500s didn't have much disparity in prices is that a lot of the last 500s where actually 4.5/4.6... whether it's true or not I don't know.

Hello Quinny, knee ( and also in my case knee and knackered back problems ) how familiar !

How did the extra engine weight etc etc have an effect on it compared to a std one ? Did it have the Griff ( T5 ? ) gearbox ? And who did the conversion ?

Car weighed 1100kg and when driving it, it felt exactly the same as my old 500 (but much faster)

Gearbox was a 6 speed Gm unit....a T5 wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes with the torque that thing puts outhehe.. Diff was also replaced with a fully rebuilt BTR

Steve Gullick did the conversion

Re E Types, I have owned 9 and I was heavily involved with them for quite a while and yes I would love an Opalescent silver blue 3.8 roadster, but they Just aren't worth the silly money being asked for them.

I agree with Quinny I've got an ls3 in my Griff, it made 478hp and around 450lbs/ft. It drives a lot like the 500 and is maybe a bit
more tail happy but I think you just have to learn to drive within the traction envelope............not sure I'm there yet !!

Nice graphs!

The old Rover is only 100 bhp behind smile At least the same torque though. 420 ftlb at 3K and rising.

The lower graph is my old 4.6.

On my car, it wasn't the amount of torque that made it so easy to drive, it was the spreadsmile.... The max was around 450, but it was already making over 400ft/lbs at just 2000rpm...biggrin
