Good Luck with those GKN rebuilds, you're both very brave.
...it appears that I'm NOT as brave as Pete, Steve..!!

Thanks though, for all your input; much appreciated

I didn't until you pointed it out.....! I won't ask the obvious but at least you had one less rusty bolt to loosen off when you lifted the body.

It's interesting to see that a previous owner has had a botched go at replacing the outriggers and the replacements obviously didn't last long. Why go to all that trouble and then fall over at the last hurdle?

There's also a lesson there about properly protecting your chassis. Great job Manic. Pete
Thanks, Pete...I assume that you've read this thread, re: hot zinc thermal spraying, after blasting, and before the powdercoating?

A no-brainer, at £600 + vat...Especially as they forgot to include the + vat on the written quote, thus saving me £120.!!

Paul, I don't know if you've read my thread but I'm going the whole hog and hot dip zinc galvanising followed by powder coating as a finish (unless someone tells me there is a better finish). Many doomsayers on this one but there's a bloke in Poland who has done it many times successfully and despite the messages of doom, I have not come across anyone who has done it and found it to be a disaster. Anyway whatever the outcome I will report back. Pete
That was the first thing that I thought of, until everybody said that it would warp...Best of luck, Pete; I'm sure that it will turn out fine.!!

Yes, Simon...It's been a lot of blasting, de-greasing, etc. And, yes, it's painted in VHT paint

Sweet, Is that red crackle finish? If so, did you do it yourself or send it away somewhere?

I couldn't resist placing my new bonnet on, whilst dropping the body back on to check for ease of refit, firstly with a scruffy body.!!

Paul,

looks fantastic - a great job. If you are going to sprint or hillclimb it may I suggest you swap the frontlower and upper wishbones for the stronger tubular Tuscan racer ones. You will find with stiff suspension that if you use the kerbs the standard ones will bend. Much easier to do now than later.

John Reid sells them.
I did think about it.!!

I'm waiting to start work on my FIAT X19, for competition...Fitting a Suzuki GSXR 1100WP water cooled engine, 160+bhp

when you put the body back on did you have to angle the nose down to stop it fouling the upper chassis rails ?
Pretty much...there was a fair bit of wriggling involved, and at one point, the nose was trapped BELOW the front rail...A lesson learned, and a system formed, for the painted body!
