Very sexy and certainly revs up my automotive hormones, you're going to end up with a very desirable Griff with all the right mods.hillclimbmanic said:
Hello diff...Everything good inside...Slight weep on pinion shaft seal, so waiting for delivery...
Should I Polish the cover, and 2-pack clear it??
Now your diff cover looks cool you'll also have to paint the housing, if you haven't already. Over 8 years ago I used a wire brush in a drill on mine and then painted it with good old Hammerite. 8 years on I'm pleased to report all the paint is still intact, and before anyone asks yes I did paint the other half of the diff. Should I Polish the cover, and 2-pack clear it??
While you're doing the front oil seal I guess you are also replacing the output oil seals as they are also prone to leaking and are the easy ones to change.

How do I remove/refit the output seals, Steve? I've already caused myself a problem, by not indexing the pinion nut! While you're doing the front oil seal I guess you are also replacing the output oil seals as they are also prone to leaking and are the easy ones to change.

To be honest, once I got my diff out I took it to Topcats Racing for an overhaul and while there Brian showed how easy to remove the output flanges, well easy if you have the correct circlip pliers.Anyway, this picture should answer your question.

Brilliant, Steve.!!Steve
Thanks
Manic, sorry missed these last few posts but currently doing the same thing. I am also using the Maserati manual. Haven't started rebuilding yet but bought all bearings, oil seals, will makes gasket and as I said in you other thread I have also had 2mm spacers made up. I don't know if the following helps, I have the benefit of a blast cabinet and I do my own powder coating in a domestic oven from fleabay.
I did his to help me identify what I need:
Before:
After:

After:
I also had problems with these little tinkers.
I wanted to replace but couldn't find new with spigots so I have bought ordinary circlips and will have to modify pliers unless you find a source....? I have lots of photos and measurements of bearings and seals if that helps and you want to mail me. Pete

Royce Power Transmissions, Harlow. Tel: 01279 421461. I spoke to a bloke called Bob, very helpful and seemed to know what he was talking about. I paid £128.46 for all bearings and seals but excluding the circlips and the gasket. If you mail me I will scan you the invoice and send it to you. PetePaul

Steve, I'm not sure how brave really. All the gears on my diff look good and I've dismantled it in a logical way including all the shims. Measuring backlash is pretty straightforward. http://www.stevesprint.com/TVR-Griffith-Docs/GKN D...

Biggest problem I find is sourcing parts including the two drives shaft bearings, which in the end I bought 2mm. narrower as they don't make 19mm. width heavy duty bearings in that size any more. Found a little local machine shop, who made me 5 sets of 2mm shims. The other problem is those circlips but I am hoping ordinary circlips will work.
I'm not trying to save money, I just like doing it myself. Pete

Looks alright, surprised you didn't just pop the body back as it is. Pete
Absolutely NOT, Pete.!!...It needed a good T-cutting..!
Did you notice the rear body mount, with NO mounting holes, or seatbelt mounts..???

I didn't until you pointed it out.....! I won't ask the obvious but at least you had one less rusty bolt to loosen off when you lifted the body.It needed a good T-cutting..!

It's interesting to see that a previous owner has had a botched go at replacing the outriggers and the replacements obviously didn't last long. Why go to all that trouble and then fall over at the last hurdle?
There's also a lesson there about properly protecting your chassis. Great job Manic. Pete

Thanks, Pete...I assume that you've read this thread, re: hot zinc thermal spraying, after blasting, and before the powdercoating? A no-brainer, at £600 + vat...Especially as they forgot to include the + vat on the written quote, thus saving me £120.!!

Paul, I don't know if you've read my thread but I'm going the whole hog and hot dip zinc galvanising followed by powder coating as a finish (unless someone tells me there is a better finish). Many doomsayers on this one but there's a bloke in Poland who has done it many times successfully and despite the messages of doom, I have not come across anyone who has done it and found it to be a disaster. Anyway whatever the outcome I will report back. PeteA no-brainer, at £600 + vat...Especially as they forgot to include the + vat on the written quote, thus saving me £120.!!

That was the first thing that I thought of, until everybody said that it would warp...Best of luck, Pete; I'm sure that it will turn out fine.!!Paul
