My side light switch has died (no longer latching) so bought a replacement and pulled out the dash then noticed that the (rusty) steel panel it is attached it glued as well as bolted to the dash. Anyone know what sort of glue is best to use when replacing it? and any other tips when doing this.

Araldite is a good glue to use for this, or any decent epoxy. Personally I would contact Pete Mac and see if he has any of the dashboards left over that he made. Superb quality and done the way TVR should have made them in the first place with proper bolted switch mounts etc and no more cracking/flaking veneer. I threw my original dash in the bin....it was absolute rubbish and fitted one of Pete's. It now looks stunning and its properly engineered not a cheap 'bodge' like the original

A proper solution would be to use these to replace the horrible glued on studs:

I agree though a properly engineered replacement dash is the far better solution.

I wish I could take credit for PeteGriff's beautiful dashboards but ....... I know Pete is making up a new batch as we speak because I have another on order with him. If anyone is in dire need they could take my place providing I know Pete will make another batch in the future. Pete

Pete - You got yours at home? Would love a look when I finally get round to seeing you again!

For now willing to put in the new switch to get the car back on the road but longer term that new dash looks much better than the stock one, which is pretty shocking quality. My gauges could also do with a re-fresh if I were doing that so a bit of planning needed I'd think.

Rob, I have one of Pete's dashboards at home, which I plan to fit to the 'Green Meanie' this winter and I have ordered another for the 'nut and bolt rebuild' however at the rate I am going, I am happy for someone else to take my place in the queue for the current batch.

You are right on the quality of the TVR dashboards. I have taken mine out a couple of times and the dash and the air vents behind are shocking quality and ill thought out.

When you are ready, let me know and I will unwrap the dash. Pete

I am that man...... All of the current batch run have been taken I am afraid. I worked in three spares (13 in total), all of which were taken up before I knew it! The current batch will complete approximately at the end of the year. I need to source another batch of veneer in the new year, so will start to take inquiries then. All the best, Pete

Well I've just taken another look at the job, having bought some araldite, and spotted that I also have 3 broken gauges (housing fractured and about to fall out) so the job just got a whole lot bigger. If I'm going to do a bigger job then the only way to do it is properly so can you put me on a short list for the next batch please?

P.S. Anyone know the best place to get the gauges re-furbed? They work fine but the housings are broken.

Hi Rob, your name is the first on the list or the next batch in the new year. Please confirm whether 500 or precat? Will PM you with further details. Regards, Pete

Rob, as I said, if you want to take my place in the queue for the coming batch that is due soon that's fine as long as you replace it, which it sounds like your are. Let me know. Pete

The limited amount of time I get to work on the car it will easily be well into next year before I get all this sorted out. The car is still outside as the builders are on a go slow with the garage build, which doesn't help. I have to keep the car drivable so I can put it back in so no stripping it down, which is a shame I'm in the mood for it at the moment.

Basically no rush at the moment, if the second batch schedule turns out to be rather longer than I'm thinking then maybe I'll take you up on the very kind offer smile
